What is electroplating

In hardware cosmetology, with the help of galvanization, rehabilitation procedures are carried out in case of health difficulties. One of the methods of rehabilitation is galvanization - exposure of the human body to direct electric current of low voltage and strength.

Galvanic current, passing through the cells of the body, enters various tissues and organs, influencing the course of natural biological processes . Activates intracellular synthesis, blood circulation and the formation of the physical and chemical work of the endocrine system. It has a profound effect on both the skin and the entire body as a whole.

The procedure is painless. For the therapeutic and cosmetic work of galvanization, wherever it is performed: on the head, neck, torso or limbs; The physiotherapist is closely observing. Before entrusting the problem area to the doctor, you should remove all metal parts of the wardrobe and expose, if necessary, the part of the body that will undergo treatment.

Afterwards, it is advisable for the patient to rest for about 30 minutes, and the doctor will observe the body’s response to the influence of electrical signals.

Compatible with other cosmetic procedures

Many people are interested in the question not only of what galvanic facial cleansing is, but also how it interacts with other methods of skin cleansing.

According to cosmetologists, to achieve maximum results, disincrustation can be combined with the following procedures:

  • Manual facial cleansing;
  • Vacuum cleaning of pores;
  • Mechanical, laser peeling;
  • Ultrasonic cleaning.

It is strictly forbidden to carry out galvanotherapy together with chemical peeling. When the procedures interact, there is a high load on the skin, which can cause injuries and serious consequences.

Actions of galvanic current

A direct electric current, with a voltage of 30 to 80 V and a force of up to 50 mA, penetrates into cell tissue using active and passive electrodes. Charged ions are created between these electrodes and, moving, they enhance metabolism and regenerative functions in the body.

This flow of ion movement contributes to the occurrence of certain chemical reactions in the human body. The composition of glands, fluids and muscle tissue includes: proteins, colloids, glycogen, salts and so on. It is their molecules that the current causes to disintegrate into charged ions. This causes irritation of skin receptors, as there is a jump in ion saturation.

The impulses arising in this case are rapidly transmitted to the central nervous system, and the body’s overall positive reaction does not take long to occur.

The action of galvanic current shows excellent results in combination with medications. By reacting with each other, they increase efficiency and increase the positive outcome of the procedure. Basically, two methods of galvanization are used.

Disincrustation: facial cleansing using galvanic current

Disincrustation is a method of galvanotherapy, which is based on the use of continuous electric current of low strength and low voltage for cosmetic purposes. In this case, disincrustation is cleansing the skin using continuous low-power pulses and a special alkaline solution.

We can say that disincrustation is a very gentle way of facial cleansing, in contrast to chemical peelings and mechanical cleansing. Therefore, this cleansing method can be recommended to owners of even the most sensitive skin, susceptible to any irritants. Typically, this method is not used as an independent procedure; most often it is part of a complex of facial skin care measures.

What is the essence of the procedure?

The device that carries out disincrustation is based on the electrophoresis method, which, using direct electric current, conducts biologically active substances through the skin and mucous membranes. In other words, electrophoresis is the process of moving dispersed phase particles. Dispersed particles are one or more phases (bodies) that do not mix and do not react with each other.

Thus, on the surface of the skin, the cathode (negatively charged electrode) begins to attract positive particles, which, under the influence of galvanic current, begin to activate, loosening the surface of the epidermis and producing the effect of alkalizing the skin.

As a result of their interaction, the acid-base balance of the skin decreases, and its environment transforms: from acidic it becomes alkaline. Next, the galvanophoresis solution begins to act. The solution contains: sodium chloride (5%), sodium bicarbonate (1%) or sodium salicylate (2%).

It happens that the solution is provided ready-made by the manufacturers of the galvanophoresis apparatus. The solution can be independently enriched with various active substances, for example, potassium, magnesium ions, etc.

After the transformation of the environment has occurred, an alkaline reaction and the process of saponification and alkalization of skin fats occur in the pores under the influence of alkali, that is, an increase in the pH of the skin. As a result, the pores are cleansed and the openings of the follicles are opened, and the contents of the secretion of the sebaceous glands are brought to the surface of the skin and removed mechanically.

In addition, during the process of changing the environment, acidic products, when passing through an electric current, destroy the connections between the cells of the stratum corneum (keratinocytes), which contributes to the thinning of the epidermis and the restoration of its epithelium.

In addition to facial cleansing, galvanic current conducts micro-massage of the skin, which improves blood and lymph circulation, skin permeability, and also accelerates metabolic processes in cells.

How to carry out the procedure

First of all, you need to remove your facial makeup. Then a special mask soaked in disinfectant is applied to the cleansed face. A mask is a pad of gauze, which, after being applied to the face, is treated with a negatively charged electrode. Particularly carefully treat areas where there are a large number of sebaceous glands.

The electrode can be wrapped in a napkin in the form of a roller - a sponge, which is moistened in disinfectant, or a mask can be applied as described above. The positive electrode is applied to the patient's forearm in the form of a cuff.

After the alkaline saponification reaction has occurred and sebum is released onto the surface of the skin, it is removed mechanically, and the skin is cleansed of saponification products. To do this, use a napkin soaked in a special solution.

The next step is to change the polarity of the electrode to restore the pH of the skin, that is, they restore the acidic reaction of the skin and close the pores. To do this, change the polarity of the electrode and treat the facial skin for a few more minutes (1-2 minutes).

The final stage of the procedure consists of intensive restorative measures: applying drying, toning and nourishing masks.

The course of procedures consists of 5-10 sessions. Each procedure lasts 10 minutes with positive and negative polarity alternately.

The number of necessary procedures is determined by a cosmetologist. It depends on the problems that need to be solved. A second course of procedures is usually repeated after 2-3 weeks. This method is well combined with other cosmetic procedures.

During the process of disincrustation, pore drainage occurs, which brings their secretion out along with the bacteria located in it. Since blockage of pores leads to the formation of a closed system and the accumulation of pathological bacteria in it.

Advantages of the method

This procedure has a number of significant advantages. When disincrustation occurs:

  • loosening and softening the upper layer of the epidermis;
  • opening of the follicle openings;
  • improving vascular permeability;
  • improving blood and lymph circulation;
  • softening of fatty plugs;
  • increased vascular permeability;
  • increased cellular metabolism;
  • the procedure is painless;
  • deeply cleanses the skin without mechanical trauma, redness and swelling;
  • normalizes the secretion of the sebaceous glands.

As a result, not only the skin is cleansed, but also its physical parameters are improved.

What effect to expect from the procedure

Above we described all the advantages of this method, and now we will name the effects that disincrustation provides:

  • clean, smooth skin without microtraumas and redness;
  • narrowing of pores;
  • improvement of complexion;
  • elimination of acne and post-acne;
  • elimination of pigmentation;
  • elimination of oily shine on the face;
  • evening out skin tone and texture;
  • reduction of the stratum corneum of the epidermis.

The procedure has no serious disadvantages if all contraindications are taken into account. There is some discomfort during the procedure, which is as follows:

  • slight tingling;
  • metallic taste in the mouth;
  • the appearance of headache;
  • feeling weak and overwhelmed after the session;
  • personal intolerance to the effects of electric current.

Types of galvanization (iontophoresis, disincrustation)

Galvanization in cosmetology involves procedures such as: disincrustation and electrophoresis or iontophoresis.

Disincrustation is a procedure in which the face is cleansed using an alkaline solution combined with galvanic current. In the pores of the skin, saponification of sebum occurs, which leads to loosening of the skin and its cleansing.

When disincrusting, solutions of sodium bicarbonate up to 3%, sodium carbonate 5% and sodium chloride up to 5% are used.

Electrophoresis or iontophoresis. In this case, charged cosmetics are injected using electric current. Thanks to the properties of the current, as well as ionizing agents, the active particles penetrate the epidermal barrier and affect the lower layers of the dermis and epidermis.

Using iontophoresis, a large concentration of cosmetics is created in the desired area of the skin, which accumulate in the cell tissues and move into the blood and lymph vessels. There is a kind of process of organized storage of drugs in a given area of skin healing.

Types of galvanotherapy

There are two types of galvanotherapy used in cosmetology:

  • iontophoresis;
  • disincrustation.

Iontophoresis is a procedure performed using low voltage current. The procedure is carried out with a special device with attachments, through which an electric current is transmitted to the skin. This procedure increases blood circulation and improves the penetration ability of medicinal products.

As a result, beneficial substances from creams and masks penetrate deep into the dermis, where renewal and restoration processes occur.

Disincrustation is a procedure that cleanses the skin using galvanic current and an alkaline solution. When a galvanic current acts on a solution, saponification (a chemical reaction) occurs. The essence of the reaction is that alkalis, reacting with fatty acids of the sebaceous glands, are saponified and transformed into soap, with which the skin is cleansed.

The alkaline solution helps loosen the skin, resulting in sebum being removed from its pores. For example, for acne, disincrustation can be a good replacement for mechanical facial cleansing.

Advantages and disadvantages

This method of treatment is gentle and non-traumatic; there are positive and negative aspects.

The positive ones include:

  • The procedure is not accompanied by pain or discomfort;
  • Injury and infection of the skin are excluded;
  • Without the intervention of a surgical scalpel, a quick and positive result is achieved;
  • Side effects and possible complications are eliminated.

Unpleasant nuances of the effects of galvanic current:

  • Several procedures are required to consolidate the result;
  • Slight redness of the skin after the session;

  • A metallic taste may occur in the mouth;
  • Sometimes discomfort appears after the session and during it;
  • A considerable list of contraindications.

The effect that galvanization has on the body is usually accompanied by excellent effects and positive results.

Efficiency – before and after the procedure

In addition to deep cleansing of pores, galvanic facial cleansing is a technique for smoothing out fine wrinkles, giving the skin firmness and elasticity, and improving the functioning of the sebaceous glands. Galvanotherapy helps eliminate blackheads and refresh the complexion. Improvements are visible after the first session, but it is impossible to completely eliminate skin imperfections at one time. To achieve maximum effect, it is recommended to complete a full course of disincrustation.

There are examples when the galvanotherapy procedure does not lead to positive results. After several sessions, the skin still remains oily and dirty. The number of blackheads on the face increases compared to what it was before the procedure. The problem may be caused by improper functioning of the thyroid gland, so in this case you should seek help from an endocrinologist.

When the procedure is carried out by an inexperienced doctor, violating its technique, the “after” result can cause a terrifying effect. Without following safety rules, there is a risk of skin burns, capillary damage, and bruising.

Galvanization efficiency

A clearly and correctly performed galvanization procedure entails a train of positive effects:

  • Joints become more mobile;
  • Blood circulation processes are activated;
  • Chronic swelling is minimized;
  • The formation and metabolism of protein in the body improves;
  • Injured tissues are healed;
  • Much more oxygen enters the cell tissue;
  • Removing toxins from the human body;
  • Acts as pain relievers;
  • Has lymphatic drainage and regenerating effects;
  • Water-salt metabolism is brought to the proper level;
  • Fecal and urinary incontinence is cured;
  • Muscle tissue atrophy is well eliminated.

With the help of such sessions, many people said goodbye to their illnesses.

Among others, such products are produced by the French company LPG Systems and the German Vitalaser. It is recommended to use cosmetics to maintain the achieved results after completing the course hardware program. Manufacturers claim that these drugs help restore and increase cellular activity in tissues in order to prevent and stop skin aging and the formation of local fat deposits and cellulite.

Is it possible to combine galvanization with other procedures?

The combined effect of the procedures enhances the restorative effect in the body. The positive effects of physiotherapeutic sessions add up to the restoration of balance lost during illness. Or the effect of one procedure, completely or partially, neutralizes the effect of another.

The combination of procedures depends on the nature, course and stage of the disease. The general and functional state of the person is taken into account.

After galvanization on the same day it is not advisable to do:

  • Mud applications;
  • Radon, sulfide and carbon dioxide baths;
  • Darsonvalization is undesirable;
  • Use a high pressure shower.

Galvanization can be safely combined with other procedures:

  • Magnetotherapy;
  • UHF and microwave therapy;
  • Mineral, gas, medicinal and aromatic baths;
  • Thermotherapy;
  • General franklinization;
  • Ultrasound therapy.

    Electroplating in cosmetology goes well with ultrasound therapy

Do not forget that many procedures are not the key to a speedy recovery of health, sometimes it turns out the opposite.

Progress

Galvanotherapy is carried out in several successive stages. First, the cosmetologist prepares the skin, for which he cleanses it of decorative cosmetics, dirt and sebaceous secretions. To do this, you can use a classic hygiene product - soap or milk.

Next, an alkaline solution is distributed over the surface of the epidermis.

After the specialist checks and configures the device for operation, galvanic current is supplied. The doctor begins to move the device over the skin in the chin area. The patient may feel warmth and tingling, and a metallic taste in the mouth cannot be ruled out.

Myostimulation of abdominal muscles

Abdominal myostimulation is a type of physiotherapeutic procedure that allows you to restore muscle tone, increase blood flow, and reduce fat.

Gradually the current intensity increases. Next, the cosmetologist proceeds to treat the entire face. In this case, movements should be smooth and performed only in the direction of the massage lines.

During the work, special attention should be paid to the area of the chin, nasolabial folds and upper lip.

It is also worth remembering that during the cleansing process it is imperative to avoid the area where the thyroid gland is located.

After about 20 minutes, soapy contents form on the face, which is easily removed with water.

After this stage, the polarity of the electrode is replaced with a negative one and the skin is re-treated, which is necessary to restore its acidity.

At this stage, the current supply gradually decreases to zero.

A special mask with a restorative effect and a moisturizer are applied to the skin.

Preparations for galvanization

When galvanizing in medicine and cosmetologists, they use solutions of elastin and collagen in ampoules. All medications are prescribed individually by a cosmetologist. Herbal infusions demonstrate good effects.

Biogenic stimulants prepared from:

  • Tissues of animal organisms;
  • Plant extracts;
  • Estuary mud.

Acids used:

  • Ascorbic acid. Takes an active part in the creation of procollagen, collagen, improves permeability in capillaries;
  • Salicylic. Acts as a distracting, irritating and antiseptic substance;
  • Nicotine. Shows vasodilating and stimulating effects;
  • Caffeine. Breaks down fats into fatty acids under the influence of the lipase enzyme.

Various special-purpose buffer solutions, medications and serums are used. The result from such procedures is much more effective than from regular application of cosmetic substances to the skin.

Preparation

Exposure of the skin to galvanic current does not require special preparatory measures. The main thing to do is to first visit a specialist who will conduct an examination, assess the general condition of the skin, give special recommendations and determine the scope of work.

How does the galvanization procedure for the face work?

There are no difficulties in carrying out the procedure.

But there are certain rules that should be followed:

  • The face is cleansed of makeup and impurities using cosmetics;
  • A special solution is applied to the skin to allow current to pass through;
  • Wrap the electrode with a napkin soaked in disinfectant. The electrode usually has the form of a roller with a surface similar to an ordinary sponge, which absorbs the electrolyte solution;
  • The forehead, nasolabial area and problem areas are treated with an electrode with a negative charge;
  • The treatment procedure occurs along massage lines;
  • Then the polarity of the electrode is changed to restore the acid-base balance;
  • After the procedure, which lasts an average of 30 minutes, the skin must be covered with intensive recovery products.

During the session, the patient holds a neutral electrode in his hands, which is necessary for the current to occur. After the procedure, it is advisable not to use cosmetics for 10–12 hours. For about 5 days, the skin will be sensitive to both mechanical and chemical influences, as well as ultraviolet rays.

For speedy skin regeneration, it is necessary to use restorative, moisturizing masks and creams.

In cosmetology, such procedures are not accompanied by painful sensations. Mild tingling and stinging is possible. The next session is best done in a week. A total of 4 such sessions will be needed, depending on the condition of the skin.

How is galvanotherapy performed?

Before the procedure, the skin is cleansed and degreased using several methods: brosage, scrub or light chemical peeling. Then a gauze cloth is applied to the cleansed skin, which has been previously impregnated with a special preparation or conductive substance, which contains medicinal ingredients. Next, the procedure itself is carried out: the cosmetologist slowly begins to treat the skin with a special electrode.

Typically two electrodes are used: active and passive. The specialist himself works as the active one, and the passive patient holds it in his hand. At the end of the procedure, the patient’s skin is wiped with a soothing lotion, a cooling mask is applied, and then a nourishing cream is applied.

The duration of the procedure is 30 minutes depending on the area being treated, and the galvanotherapy process itself lasts no more than 5 minutes. During the procedure, the patient feels a slight burning and tingling sensation, the intensity of the tingling depends on the individual threshold of tolerance.

The procedure is carried out in courses, no more than 2 times a month. The full course consists of 6 – 8 procedures. To consolidate the effect, the course is repeated after two or three months.

The use of iontophoresis for the treatment of hyperhidrosis of the palms and feet

In cosmetology, iontophoresis is used to treat sweating of the hands and feet. During the session, current flows through the first electrode into a bath of water. The patient immerses his arms and legs in the bath, and a second electrode is attached to his body. Thus, a person acts as an electrical conductor for about 30 minutes.

Water for such events is taken from the tap. But if it is soft, then add a little soda or anticholinergic drugs to the bath. To treat underarm hyperhidrosis, characteristic pads are used that should be held in place during the procedure.

Body application against cellulite

If you don’t adhere to your diet and don’t drink enough water, even the best galvanizing machine will not help you achieve the desired result.

In the fight against cellulite, galvanization helps:

  1. Supporting skin tone;
  2. Eliminates fading;
  3. Deprives her of excess fat.

Drugs are injected into the skin of the problem area. Under the influence of galvanic current, they penetrate deeply and are deposited, producing a lipolytic effect. The procedures last half an hour, every other day.

Electrical treatment: galvanization

In our country, a physiotherapy room can be found in every sanatorium and every district clinic.
And the words “electrophoresis”, “darsonval” and “galvanization” are well known even to those who have never visited this office. At one time, current treatment procedures became a real revolution in medicine. But today many are skeptical about them - and completely in vain! Our information:
Electrotherapy or electrotherapy is one of the types of physiotherapy. This is a therapy based on the effect of direct or alternating current of low voltage on the patient's body. Treatment with current is effective for diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system, musculoskeletal system and others.

The main electrotherapy procedures are:

  • Galvanization, including galvanic mud
  • Electrophoresis, including medicinal and mud
  • UHF therapy and Darsonval

Who first invented current treatment?

As soon as people learned to use electricity, doctors in Europe began to think about how it could be used for the benefit of health. The founder of electrophysiology - as a separate direction in medicine - is considered to be the Italian doctor, anatomist and part-time physicist Luigi Galvani. Yes, yes, you were not mistaken - it was his name that was named after the first procedure in electrotherapy - galvanization. Galvani studied the influence of electricity on the body on frogs: he saw that muscles move under the influence of current, which means that weak discharges of electricity can become something like a “massager” for internal organs. The second “father of electrotherapy” is considered to be the French neurologist Guillaume Duchenne. He tested the healing power of electricity not on frogs, but on living people - passing light discharges through the facial muscles. In Russia, the first follower of the new direction was military doctor Nikolai Yakovlev. In 1886, after retiring, he opened the first electrical-galvanic hospital in the country in Astrakhan.

How does galvanization affect a person?

The essence of this method is to pass a constant electric current of low voltage (30-50 volts) and low strength (up to 50 milliamps) through the patient’s body. Human tissues and internal organs do not have very high electrical conductivity, so the current does not pass directly through them, but as if “bypassing” - through the intercellular spaces, blood and lymphatic vessels. As a result, blood flow and lymph movement in tissues and organs is accelerated, and metabolism is stimulated. In addition, in the bloodstream itself, the concentration of leukocytes, which protect our body from foreign bacteria and viruses, increases, and the ESR increases slightly. It turns out that galvanization seems to “shake up” our body, bringing its immunity into combat readiness.

Galvanotherapy for various indications

In sanatoriums and clinics, galvanic therapy is most often prescribed in the following cases:

  • Diseases of the joints and spine (vertebral hernias, osteochondrosis, arthrosis, arthritis, problems with the cervical-collar area). In these cases, galvanotherapy has an anti-inflammatory, analgesic and stimulating effect.
  • Gynecological diseases (menopausal syndrome, infertility, inflammation of the uterus and appendages). In these diseases, galvanic current improves blood supply to tissues, promotes the resorption of adhesions and scars, and relieves spasms of smooth muscles.
  • Dental diseases of nervous origin (neuralgia and paralysis of the facial nerve, neuritis, periodontitis, inflammation of the salivary glands). In this case, galvanotherapy accelerates the regeneration of damaged nerve and bone tissues, relieves pain and inflammation.

Does it hurt or not?

Many patients coming for treatment for the first time are afraid of the galvanotherapy apparatus. It seems to them that the nurse may “miscalculate” the voltage and the patient will receive an electric shock. These fears are completely groundless, since the device itself is not designed for large values. Galvanic current has very little power and voltage, therefore it is safe for humans. And the procedure itself does not cause any pain - only a slight tingling or “goosebumps” sensation. In this case, the patient regulates the intensity of the “goosebumps” himself. The optimal duration of the procedure is 10-15 minutes, but in some cases it can be increased to 30 minutes.

Current treatment: contraindications

Despite the external harmlessness of the procedure, it has a number of contraindications. In particular, galvanotherapy is not used:

  • For hypertension (180/100 or more) and hypertensive crises;
  • During pregnancy (especially in the first trimester);
  • For atrial fibrillation;
  • If the patient has a pacemaker or metal prostheses;
  • For inflammatory diseases in the acute stage with high fever;
  • For skin lesions and eczema (so as not to damage the skin).
  • For cancer

Aesthetic physiotherapy: electric shock treatment of wrinkles and acne

Recently, galvanization has become increasingly used in cosmetology - as an effective remedy in the fight against aesthetic skin defects: wrinkles, redness and acne. As a rule, galvanotherapy of the face is carried out using medicinal gels and solutions - nourishing or cleansing, depending on the specific problem. So, alkaline solutions are used to cleanse the skin of acne. And to smooth out wrinkles - moisturizing and nourishing gels. During the procedure, pores and small capillaries expand (the skin may turn slightly red), and the skin becomes more susceptible to creams and medications. They are absorbed into the deep layers of the dermis and do their job: clean clogged pores or smooth out wrinkles.

What is galvanic mud?

Another popular use of electroplating in medicine is when used in combination with mud treatments. With this technique, electrodes are connected directly to mud applications applied to the patient's body. Under the influence of current, mud penetrates better into the skin and cell membranes - and the procedure becomes more effective than conventional mud therapy. In this article we told you only about one of the areas of electrotherapy - galvanotherapy. Read about other types of electrotherapy in our following materials. To be continued.

Devices for home use

To carry out galvanization at home, try to use a compact and effective device.

There is a wide choice on the market of galvanic devices:

  • Nevoton AK – 201;
  • Potok-BR;
  • Gezatone “Beauty Lifting”;
  • Elfor –Prof;
  • Electroplating UMS-12 “Golden Spoon”
  • AGP – 33.

Today, the action of direct electric current is the most common lifting method.

As a result of aging and wear and tear of the body, all processes occurring in the cells are slowed down, which affects the state of health and appearance. Galvanization will help restore the previous biological rhythm, heals and rejuvenates the entire body.

Thanks to the use of galvanization in cosmetology, the path to solving many problems is shortened, without painful procedures at minimal cost.
