Biography
To begin with, it is worth noting that the pseudonym LP stands for Laura Pergolizzi (Laura Pergolizzi). Perhaps this fact should definitely answer the question of whether the lead singer of the LP group is a man or a woman. But not everything is so simple, because society is accustomed to focusing on external data, and sometimes it is so easy to make a mistake about the gender of someone, especially celebrities.

Career
The beginning of her creative career was marked by her participation as a soloist in such groups as Lionfish and The Plan. For some time she was a guest vocalist in the band Cracker. 2001 was the year she released her debut solo album, Heart-Shaped Scar. Her record immediately shot up the charts, and the song Kiss It All Goodbye was used in the drama The Safety of Things.
In 2004, remaining a mystery to the press, (male or female?) LP presented its second album entitled Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol (“Province and Alcohol”). Numerous rumors swirled around the recording of the presented album, because the song "Darkside" was the result of a collaboration between the LP and Linda Perry, songwriter and singer. The excited journalists kept trying to find out who was singing – a man or a woman? LP didn't talk much about her personal life, but the fact that Linda Perry was a lesbian bothered no one. Immediately there were suggestions that Laura was also “a girl.” However, the star decided to leave a certain touch of mystery in her image. Preferring not to specify who she likes or whether she is a man or a woman, LP has never made an official comment on the matter.
Girl with a guitar
A strong voice, extravagant appearance, heartfelt lyrics and memorable melodies - all this became part of the success of the LP, whose biography is an example of perseverance and talent. The singer is also accompanied everywhere by a guitar and a ukulele, a Hawaiian four-string musical instrument. LP's vocal performance is truly unique, easily moving from velvety low notes to the highest trills of the upper registers. Her vocals are especially magnificent in studio videos, many of which become viral on the Internet, of course, because even without computer processing they sound cooler than Vitas, once popular in the countries of the former Soviet Union.
The future star was born into a family of immigrants from Italy; even at summer school, the nickname LP “stuck” to her, which she made her creative pseudonym. The future star was also called the same by her co-workers at one of the restaurants in New York, where she moved after graduating from school. Later, LP moved to Los Angeles, and it was this city that became a cozy nest for her, such a freedom-loving bird.
LP, Lost .. … - who sings - a man or a woman?
Despite the fact that Laura achieved popularity in America back in 2012, Europe became acquainted with her work only after the release of the song Lost on you; it was this song that resonated with many people from Russia. Everything about this wonderful man attracts us - breathtaking curls, androgynous appearance and a style full of aesthetics. Here, rather, it became a plus that it was not clear who was singing, a man or a woman.
The LP, Lost on you, won the hearts of many pop-rock music lovers with this track. Thanks to such performers, people begin to appreciate purely human qualities and talent, without paying attention to his/her gender.
Personal life LP
LP is a lesbian and has made no effort to hide this fact over the years of her career. Moreover, her most heartfelt and famous songs, “Lost on You” and “Other People,” which brought fame to the artist, were dedicated to a woman.
Laura did not have the opportunity to tell her mother about her sexual orientation:
My mother died before she found out that I was a lesbian, and my father thought for a long time that it was just a teenage crush and only recently realized that it was not so. But in any case, I never received criticism or negativity from my parents. I still don't receive it.
LP was in a long-term relationship with Tamzin Brown, but they broke up in 2015. Everything points to the fact that the super hit “Lost on you” tells the story of this particular breakup. “Baby, you broke my fucking heart, but I'll still wear a great suit and stay cheerful... You'll miss me, baby. A deep drag of a cigarette... Curtain.”
Here's how the singer herself commented on it:
It's been a really crazy year. I had just broken off a previous long-term relationship and now I was on the verge of a new one... When our relationship came to an end, I already knew that I would have to go through the breakup. From these experiences the song “Lost On You” was born. A breakup is a time to stop and introspect.
After an unsuccessful relationship and suffering after a breakup, which ultimately inspired the singer’s hits, in 2015 she met singer Lauren Ruth Ward and they soon began a relationship. And in 2022 it became known that Laura and Lauren were engaged! LP's beloved proposed in Paris. Without thinking twice, the artist agreed and soon talked about it on the social network.

This is true! We did it! Well, she did, even though I was going to do it anyway. She asked, I said “Yes” and boom! We'll get married soon! - wrote LP.
This happened, although the girls decided to leave this moment only for loved ones, and not for the media and the public. It is only known that the wedding took place in Paris, France.
Interesting facts about the popular singer
As it recently became known thanks to explicit clips, Laura really is a girl, but she gravitates towards the female gender. Her relationship with her parents was somewhat strained, so she never admitted to her mother that she was a lesbian. Her mother died, and her father, who considered her inclinations only a teenage whim, came to terms with this fact. However, as Laura says, her parents never criticized her and perceived all her decisions positively.
Laura won an audience of millions not only with her records, but also with the acoustic versions that she presented in hotels, clubs, etc.
It is noteworthy that LP's career began with writing songs for famous artists. Thus, she has written songs for Christina Aguilera and Rihana.
Beautiful People - This song was co-written by Nicole Scherzinger for Christina Aguilera at her country house in the mountains. Laura also wrote that this collaboration seemed so surreal and “damn cool” to her, while the two of them were basking in the chambers of a warm apartment and writing and writing...
The body of the LP singer - tattoos instead of feminine forms
In an interview, Laura says that her angrogynous (genderless) appearance is her second skin. Jeans, classic suits, T-shirts and men's shirts look great on the singer's long, thin figure. But the deliberate simplicity of stage costumes is nothing more than a game; in reality, the singer sews her outfits to order, so cropped jackets and leather jackets fit her “like a glove.” And some “T-shirts” are designed to show off the star’s tattoos. There are currently seven of them. The most extravagant one is on the singer’s LP chest - it symbolizes the path of life and in its own way compensates for the visual absence of mammary glands. Among other tattoos, we note the stars on the wrist and lower abdomen, the number 7 (in honor of the date of the meeting with a friend - July 7), and also the Russian word “love” - the singer got it in Russia, where she has already come to give concerts several times. In our country, LP has many imitators (both girls and boys) in the way they dress, in the way they speak and in the way they behave.
Has LP changed gender?
Perhaps this is the question that most worries the public. The singer herself does not admit to gender reassignment surgery. Experts are inclined to believe her, since such a surgical intervention implies lifelong hormonal therapy, which cannot but affect the voice - it will change and, perhaps, not for the better. However, LP's voice remains the same as 20 years ago, which means Laura did not have surgery.
Vivid image
Speaking about her style, Laura emphasizes that she does not resort to the help of experienced stylists, she simply acts on a whim, everything is natural and relaxed.
Nevertheless, she honed her style throughout her career, and to this day the singer strives to achieve the maximum reflection of her inner state through her appearance.
Black sunglasses are an indispensable attribute in the image of LP, so she, according to her, not only imitates Roy Orbison, but also tries to protect herself from this reality, since she is still afraid of the vast world, ready to overthrow her from the pedestal of fame at any moment. We can only hope that she will be able to overcome this phobia and look broadly and boldly into the eyes of passers-by and enjoy every day.
She is always ready to joke about her atypical appearance; she is not affected by the jokes and gossip about her orientation, which constantly rain down on her from people constrained by stereotypes.
As she answered in her interview, Laura is quite happy with her image at the moment. Every time she goes on stage, she feels “at ease” there. Well-being has affected all areas of her life, and one can only be glad that the singer’s personal life and career are only getting better.
The face of LP – what has changed in the singer’s image
Comparing photos of Laura Pergolizzi at the beginning of her career (her debut on the professional stage took place in 1998, the first album was released in 2001) and modern photographs of the singer, no radical changes can be detected. The same mischievous almond-shaped eyes, a clear arch of the eyebrows, an upturned nose and a short upper lip that barely covers the upper teeth. A typical teenage image, but you can easily understand that the photo is a girl. Having “found” her style in her youth, Laura brought it to perfection, that is, she achieved what she wanted, namely the maximum correspondence between her external appearance and her internal state. Today, according to LP, she is comfortable in “her own skin,” in life and in creativity.
What LP has changed:
Firstly, I completely gave up cosmetics. In her opinion, by doing this she was able to focus attention on her eyes - they, against the background of white skin, began to look brighter and deeper. The singer feels better if she isolates herself from the world - hence her love for sunglasses, which she almost never parts with.
Secondly, I got rid of the roundness of the oval face that had taken place. Perhaps her face became more elongated due to weight loss, but experts do not rule out that the singer changed the contour of her face by inserting an implant into her chin, or corrected its line using contouring.
Thirdly, the singer has fallen in love with herself and is not afraid to be ugly - she has rich facial expressions, which means she has a lot of wrinkles. However, LP “makes faces” in front of the camera, letting the public know that she peacefully coexists with her nasolabial folds, crow’s feet and marionette wrinkles and is not going to get rid of them either with the help of Botox or with the help of hyaluronic fillers.
