Laser removal of warts: description of the procedure, quantity, possible consequences

Plantar warts are benign epithelial tumors that are localized on the skin of the foot. They appear as hard skin growths that are off-white or yellowish in color. The location on the foot leads to frequent trauma to the formations when walking, and the appearance of severe pain.

The cause of plantar warts is the human papillomavirus (HPV), which leads to proliferation of the epidermis and its local growth. The virus attacks the skin during direct contact, penetrating through abrasions, abrasions, and injured calluses. Favorable conditions for HPV infection are created in a humid and warm environment, when the skin is steamed and is more susceptible to the penetration of foreign microorganisms. Therefore, most often people become infected in public baths, swimming pools, and saunas.

In addition, the following factors increase the risk of infection:

  • hyperhidrosis of the skin of the feet;
  • dry skin of the feet;
  • presence of skin lesions in the foot area;
  • diseases that lead to impaired trophism of tissues of the lower extremities (diabetes, angiopathy);
  • deformation of the feet (flat feet, deforming arthrosis). These conditions change the anatomy of the foot, which leads to chronic microtrauma of the skin and creates conditions for the penetration of the virus.

However, infection does not always mean the appearance of a wart on the skin. After all, many people come into contact with the virus, but only some of them have problems. The fact is that normally the activity of the virus is suppressed by the body’s defense mechanisms, in particular by the immune system. But if there is a malfunction in its operation or the presence of other factors, viral proliferation is triggered, due to which the cells of the dermis begin to actively divide, and a wart is formed.

Why do warts appear?

Warts are caused by infection with a virus that causes warts.

Only skin cells (palms, soles, less often the face, body) become infected and warts appear in these places in groups or individually. The virus is transmitted through household contact with sick people or through common objects (swimming pools, bathhouses, locker rooms).

Infection is also facilitated by a weakened immune system, the presence of wounds, scratches, and cracks.

Reasons for appearance

HPV is the main cause of warty growths.

No one is immune from the virus entering the body. Children and older people are more susceptible to infection than others, but they also occur quite often in adults.

The virus is present on household items (towels, combs), in transport, and on the street. It can enter the body when a person’s immune system is weakened, through scratches and cracks in the skin, and can even be damaged through sexual contact.

The main reason has always been and remains - non-compliance with personal hygiene rules. If you do not wash your hands, do not treat wounds, or use other people’s personal care products, then this is a direct path to HPV entering the body, and then the appearance of benign papillomas on the body.

Do warts need to be removed?

Warts are removed not only for aesthetic purposes, but also to a greater extent as a treatment measure: removing warts prevents their reproduction (in the case of warts on the face and body).

Removing plantar warts, in addition, prevents an increase in size and the acquisition of an ugly, “blooming” appearance, and a high likelihood of pain when walking. Periungual warts can deform the nail plate and lead to its detachment.

Warts should be removed as soon as they appear - this will make the laser removal procedure less painful, faster, cheaper and the healing process will be easier.

How to remove warts?

How to get rid of a wart if its presence prevents you from living a full life? What remedies for warts will help get rid of them.

Drug treatment of warts

Applicable in cases where warts have just begun to grow and are extremely small in size. Under no circumstances should you attempt to remove warts on your own without consulting a doctor. The fact is that most medications aimed at removing warts are quite toxic or even poisonous, and improper use of medications can lead to even more dire consequences, such as additional pain and burns. There are often cases when medical removal of warts will no longer be effective.

Removal of warts with liquid nitrogen (cryotherapy)

The wart is removed with liquid nitrogen. In this case, the wart is exposed to low temperatures, freezing and destroying the tissue. The disadvantages of this method include the possibility of damage to healthy tissue adjacent to the treatment area and a rather long rehabilitation period. Often, several sessions are required to remove a wart with liquid nitrogen.

Electrocoagulation. Removal of warts with electric current.

In this case, the wart is removed by local high-temperature exposure to high-frequency current. Among the disadvantages of this method, I would like to note its pain. When using this method of wart removal, local anesthesia is required, and for wart removal in children, even general anesthesia is required. Also, the disadvantages of this method include the possibility of damage to healthy tissue during the operation. Removing warts using electrocoagulation may require several procedures.

Surgical method for removing warts.

Warts are removed surgically by excision. This method is applicable in cases of extreme development of warts. It is used quite rarely, since in most cases warts can be removed using other, more effective and less traumatic methods.

Among the disadvantages of the surgical method of removing warts, one can highlight the long rehabilitation period and the fact that after the operation to remove the wart, stitches are applied, and after their removal, a scar remains.

Removal of warts with laser.

Laser removal of warts is the most modern and optimal of the listed treatment methods. This method is great for removing warts from any area. There are no restrictions for laser wart removal. During the procedure, the laser beam penetrates to a predetermined depth and strikes the tissue of the wart, thereby destroying it. The procedure is painless and after it there are no scars, scars, burns or any other complications. When removing a wart with a laser, only one procedure is required! The procedure is absolutely safe, as it is carried out without contact, the possibility of introducing an infection into the wound is zero.

How do you know whether or not you should remove a wart?

Removal or removal of warts is necessary in these cases:

1. If the warts begin to increase in size or begin to “merge.”

2. Warts cause aesthetic discomfort (they are located on visible areas of the skin).

3. In the case when warts grow in inconvenient places (for example, when they are in areas where they constantly have physical impact (for example, on the soles of the feet or on the waist).

4. If warts cause pain when pressed or any other physical impact.

5. If these are genital warts

It happens that warts do not cause concern; in this case, we recommend that you still consult a doctor and identify the cause of its appearance. It is possible that you will not need to remove the warts, but will need to undergo a course of complex treatment and they will go away on their own.

What happens after laser removal of warts and other tumors

1. Removal occurs under local anesthesia. The procedure usually takes a few minutes.

2. After the procedure, a small scab will form. It is not recommended to touch or remove it so as not to disrupt healing. The scab will fall off on its own within a few days. There is no need to physically impact the scab (do not scratch it or try to pick it out).

2. When the scab separates, a bright pink socket will open.

3. Within a month, the surface will level out and the skin color will normalize. The healing process will be completed.

We recommend that after the wart removal procedure, you strictly follow the doctor’s recommendations and hygiene rules to avoid infection of the wound. Try to avoid prolonged contact of the wound with water and direct sunlight for 2 months after the wart removal procedure.

How to get rid of warts in 15 minutes?

At the Gradient clinic, qualified dermato-oncologist surgeons will carefully examine the formations, determine their type and how to solve your situation. Warts can be removed on the same day of treatment - the procedure is comfortable and painless, using local anesthesia.

After removal, the doctor will recommend care for speedy healing. If necessary, antiviral treatment will also be prescribed. If there is any doubt about the benign quality of the formation, the removed sample will be sent for histology. You can be sure that the procedure is safe!

The most modern and effective solution to the problem of warts is laser removal using a CO2 laser.

Number of required procedures

To eliminate a small wart or mole, it is enough to do 1 procedure. Often a session takes no more than 10 minutes, and only when working with a large area does the process last for half an hour or even an hour. During this time, the specialist completely removes the unwanted formation.

In rare cases, dermatologists offer a course of 2-3 sessions, the required interval is at least 7 days. This option is used for patients with sensitive skin, especially if it is necessary to treat a large number of moles or papillomas.

More often, removal in several stages is carried out for highly overgrown formations. If all rules of procedure and care are followed, there is no need for prophylaxis.

Benefits of laser wart removal:

  • The device does not come into contact with the patient’s skin; it acts with a beam. Complete asepsis is achieved, the wound does not bleed;
  • Removal of warts is achieved with a single radical procedure;
  • Precise selection of laser beam parameters allows precise action at the wart-healthy skin interface;
  • Healthy skin tissue around the wart is not damaged (there are no unreasonably large marks after removal);
  • Rapid tissue regeneration after the removal procedure, the wound heals quickly.
  • Painless. Preliminary anesthesia allows you to completely avoid pain;

Which removal method should you prefer?

There are mechanical, chemical and physical methods. Self-removal of warts with chemicals (solcoderm, celandine) often leads to incomplete removal with possible dissemination of the process, leaving larger and more noticeable scars. In addition, for single warts, the price of drugs is almost equal to the cost of removing a wart in a clinic.

Today, the “gold standard” is removal using an ablative laser.

The CO2 laser used to remove warts in our clinic has the following advantages:

  • Thanks to the small thickness of the beam (200 µm), it is possible to precisely influence the tissue;
  • The laser wart removal procedure is radical and one-time;
  • Lack of direct contact of the device with the wound, asepsis, hemostasis (the wound does not bleed);
  • Favorable effect on regeneration, rapid wound healing, virtually no scar.

How much does wart removal cost?

The cost of laser removal of warts depends on their number, size and location (on the face, eyelids, hands, plantar and periungual warts). Based on these parameters, the surgeon will determine the exact cost before performing the procedure. Prices are also shown in the price list at the bottom of the page.

I would like to thank Artem Sergeevich Kuzmin from the bottom of my heart. There were old plantar warts that caused discomfort when walking. The doctor removed everything quickly, carefully, the wounds did not bleed. It feels like the arm is full, the operation was professional, there was no pain. Four weeks later there is not a single mark on the foot - not a scar.

Many thanks to doctor Terekhin Artyom Mikhailovich!!! I didn’t think that there were still such responsive, caring doctors, the operation took only a few seconds, but despite this, the doctor kept in touch with me for several more days, was interested in my son’s well-being, calmed my fears and answered my stupid questions)) Thank you very much, that despite such a flow of people, you are worried about your patients (even if it is a child with a simple wart on his finger), you find time to check, give advice and calm fears). Thank you again for your professionalism and humanity!
