Hair removal with neodymium laser: advantages and contraindications

It is no secret that laser hair removal today is not only a well-known, but also a very popular procedure that can effectively solve the problem of unwanted hair.

But the effectiveness and duration of the effect from its implementation largely depends on the quality and type of equipment used.

Depending on the point of impact of the laser beam, a laser can be distinguished, the target of which is melanin located in the hair shaft, and equipment that affects hemoglobin (this is what the hair follicle in the vessel feeds on) .

The latter option includes a neodymium laser, the characteristics of which we will now describe in more detail.

How does the procedure work?

Nd:YAG laser gives excellent results in the treatment of vascular formations. It removes even deeply located vessels and vessels of large diameter. The principle of its operation is the thermal effect on the affected area: by heating, it then glues the vessels, leaving after the procedure only a slight redness, which passes very quickly.

When treating acne, it acts on the protein shell of bacteria, thereby reducing sebum secretion and reducing the possibility of the formation of closed comedones. It also allows you to accelerate the maturation of existing inflammations, their rapid resorption, and prevents the appearance of new ones. To obtain a lasting result, a course of 8-10 procedures is usually required, 2-3 procedures per week, and as a result, you quickly and permanently get rid of acne. Also, neodymium laser is very effective in combating oily facial skin.

Laser correction and scars are well removed, making them smoother and less noticeable, smoothing out the tone of the face as a whole.

Depending on the complexity of the defect, one or two procedures or a course may be required.

Operating principle

The device is a modern laser installation of a new generation. The impact is carried out through a short pulse (the flash duration is only 5 nanoseconds).

When it comes to tattoo removal, several types of attachments are used - each group of pigments has its own beam color. Under the influence of the beam, the pigment located in the deep layers of the dermis is broken into small particles, and then the body removes it naturally - no spots, no other marks, or scars remain.

Carbon peeling is also called laser facial cleansing, since as a result of the effect, pores narrow, “black spots” disappear, and the quality and color of the skin improves. During the procedure, dead epidermal cells are dissolved, resulting in a pronounced rejuvenating effect. Renewed skin becomes more receptive to the action of all kinds of care products - masks, creams, skin density increases, microcirculation improves, tissues are better supplied with oxygen. According to the results obtained, carbon peeling is comparable to traditional acid peels of light and medium action, but it has important advantages - painlessness, minimal discomfort during the procedure, and no recovery period.

If the main problem is the presence of age spots, freckles, the laser will again come to the rescue. Gently and effectively removes both epidermal and dermal pigment.

Peculiarities

  • energy 700-1100 J/cm2;
  • patented Top-hat technology (uniform distribution of energy flow over the entire working area and automatic tracking of this function).

The light spot area is from 1.5 to 10 mm.

This makes it possible to use it in a wide range of applied techniques:

  • non-ablative skin rejuvenation;
  • modification of scar tissue;
  • elimination of venous pathologies of the face, body, legs;
  • removal of ingrown hairs;
  • solving dermatological problems of the face and body.

Do I need special care after hair removal?

Your doctor will advise you on skin care products to keep your skin beautiful and hydrated. You can purchase cosmeceuticals directly from our clinic. As for general recommendations, during the hair removal course:

  1. You cannot pull out hairs (all methods are prohibited - only shaving is allowed).
  2. You cannot sunbathe on the beach or in the solarium. When going out in the sun, use sunscreen.
  3. Going to the bathhouse, swimming pool, or gym in the first days is not recommended. Consult your cosmetologist.

Laser attachments

The Synchro system with LP Nd:YAG laser module gives you a wide range of easy-to-change laser attachments with automatically adjustable spot size. Each nozzle is optimized to create an even surface impact regardless of spot diameter. As an alternative to traditional foot control, the attachments feature a finger switch that allows you to control the laser output. The color touch screen of the device allows you to intuitively control the program parameters, which allows you to select the most suitable system preset using a sequence of steps.

Laser radiation with a wavelength of 1064 nm penetrates deeply with minimal scattering in tissues. This makes Synchro with LP Nd:YAG module ideal for treating all skin types, especially dark skin. Operational presets in the system are determined by the “Know-how” decisions of specialists who constantly work them out with their own hands in real conditions.

Laser hair removal

The neodymium laser allows hair removal procedures to be carried out on all skin phototypes (I - VI). In the clinic for laser hair removal we use the Candela laser

How does a neodymium laser work: features of operation

In cosmetology, neodymium laser is used quite often, and not only for hair removal, but also for removing tattoos, reducing scars, treating acne and removing various vascular formations, which, perhaps, is its main purpose. The fact is that such a laser generates waves of different lengths: from 532 Nm to 1064 Nm, which determines such wide capabilities of such equipment.

The last option is the most optimal, since in comparison with others, a wave of 1064 Nm can ensure maximum effectiveness of the procedure with minimal side effects.

The neodymium laser, which is used for hair removal, penetrates the skin tissue by 4-8 mm, which allows you to reach the hair follicle itself.

Such laser radiation is practically not absorbed by melanin, due to which this procedure can be carried out regardless of the client’s skin phototype (hair removal using such equipment is equally effective for both pale skin and heavily tanned skin).

A small degree of absorption creates all the conditions for controlled phytothermolysis, that is, the delivery of all the energy to the area where the problem is located (in our case, to the hair follicle).
Important!
When performing laser hair removal using a neodymium laser, both the cosmetologist and the client's eyes must be protected with special glasses (they are issued at the cosmetology center).

The main distinguishing feature of a neodymium laser from other types is the previously mentioned beam length, which is completely safe for the skin and harmful to the hair itself.

Contraindications

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • oncological diseases;
  • blood diseases;
  • inflammatory processes in the intended area of laser exposure;
  • skin phototype IV and V; fresh tan in the intended area of influence;
  • a number of cosmetic procedures (consult a cosmetologist);
  • acute respiratory infections;
  • tendency to the appearance of keloid scars;
  • diabetes.
  • connective tissue diseases of autoimmune etiology;
  • convulsive syndrome.
  • taking certain medications.

What color hair is it used for?

Neodymium lasers appeared on the market as devices that can work with any skin phototype. They even suit African Americans. Unlike alexandrite, their work does not depend on the amount of melanin and is aimed at the vessels that are located next to the hair follicles. This is why they are popular, despite the pain of the procedure itself.

Devices of this type are suitable for salons and clinics that offer patients a full range of cosmetology services. They work on dark, red, blond, even gray hair and are always safe.

Indications for use

Neodymium laser is recommended by cosmetologists in the following cases:

  • presence of ingrown hairs on the skin;
  • for sensitive epidermis, when other procedures cause severe irritation;
  • hair removal in the intimate area and on the face;
  • presence of increased facial hair in women (mustache or beard);
  • rapid hair regrowth after depilation (with this procedure, only the hair is removed, the bulb remains in place).

Lasers are also used for hair removal when other procedures have not produced the desired result.

Diode laser for hair removal

Laser hair removal with a diode laser is the most modern method of hair removal with an impeccable reputation. Its wavelength is 808 nm, which is much longer than other types of lasers.

At Platinental we use the latest Midepi laser - perhaps the best laser for hair removal: it is used by leading clinics in Europe and the USA.

Expert comment:

“Modern diode laser hair removal Medepi is practically painless, and side effects are reduced to zero - it is simply impossible to get a burn .

Another advantage of Midepi is its high-speed hair removal mode. In this mode, the laser generates flashes at twice the frequency, cutting the procedure time in half! It looks as if the cosmetologist is moving the attachment very quickly over the skin.

Of course, there is a fly in the ointment in this barrel of honey. Like other laser systems, the diode cannot remove light vellus hair.”

Elmira Baltacheeva, leading dermatocosmetologist.

Conducting an hair removal session on the face and body

Hair removal is carried out in stages, regardless of the area affected by the neodymium laser.

Preparation

Preparation for laser hair removal plays an important role in the outcome of the procedure.

Therefore, all the nuances must be discussed in advance with an employee at the selected salon:

  • exclude all possible existing contraindications;
  • preferably 20 days in advance (2 weeks in advance is also allowed) hair removal is allowed only using a razor;
  • the length of the hair in the laser impact area should be 3-5 mm, that is, the last shave should be no later than 5 days before the procedure;
  • 14 days in advance, avoid visiting the solarium or sunbathing;
  • For 10 days, you cannot treat the skin with alcohol-containing compounds (deodorants, creams, lotions), aggressive peelings (hardware or mechanical cleansing of the skin) are also prohibited;
  • 7 days before the session, saunas, swimming pools and baths are prohibited;
  • stop taking blood thinners 30 days in advance. Also, the procedure cannot be performed if antibiotics have been taken for a month;
  • one day before hair removal, you should not drink alcohol, and intense physical activity is also prohibited;
  • 3-5 days in advance, testing is carried out with the drugs that will be used during the procedure to exclude the development of an allergic reaction to them.

On the day of the procedure, you should not use cosmetics, even moisturizers or nourishing creams.

Duration of 1 session, sensations

The epilation process itself occurs in the following sequence:

  1. The specialist places the patient on the couch.
  2. Determines hair structure and skin condition. After this, the device is adjusted to the desired beam length and pulse frequency.
  3. The treatment area is cleaned with a special cleaning composition.
  4. After this, the skin is treated with a disinfectant and a special gel is applied, which will ensure smooth and easy gliding of the device over the treatment site.
  5. At the client's request, a cream with an anesthetic effect can be used. It must be applied in advance so that anesthesia occurs by the time the manipulations are performed.
  6. The patient and specialist wear safety glasses.
  7. A hair removal procedure is being performed. On average, a session lasts 40 minutes for women and 80 minutes for men.
  8. Once completed, the remaining gel is removed from the skin and a soothing and restorative cream is applied. It is removed after 10 minutes.

The patient can go home after receiving information about skin care during the recovery period. Since the device is equipped with a special skin cooling system, the patient feels almost nothing during the procedure and can even sleep if desired.

Is a burn possible?

The likelihood of getting a skin burn during the session is minimal. This is due to the fact that the beam affects only the blood vessels, without affecting the melanin found in the skin and hair.

The causes of a burn can be:

  • low qualification of a specialist. As a result, incorrect settings of the device are possible, the device may remain at one point for a long time;
  • lack of a cooling system in the device;
  • concealment by the patient of contraindications that can lead to the development of a burn;
  • improper preparation for the procedure (visiting a solarium before hair removal, using aggressive peeling the day before the session or using alcohol-containing products);
  • device malfunction.

The most common causes of burns are: malfunction of the device and low qualifications of the specialist.

No pain or discomfort.

All laser systems are equipped with a cooling function, which makes the procedure comfortable and painless.

Expected effect.

The cosmetologist individually selects laser radiation and technology. Therefore, the risk of possible complications (burn, hyperpigmentation, etc.) is equal to zero.

Laser hair removal: how does it work?

  • The light beam acts directly on the hairs without heating the surrounding tissues (in

    which also contains melanin).

  • When exposed to a beam or flash, the melanin in the hair absorbs the light directed at it, as a result of which the follicle heats up and is destroyed. The same thing happens with the vessel feeding it.
  • After some time, the hair will fall out along with the root - painlessly and forever.
  • Patented skin cooling system. The skin cools instantly: minimal discomfort without the risk of skin damage.
  • Possibility to process hairs in all phases.
  • Guaranteed effective results for any hair type.
  • Guaranteed results for any skin type (from dark to light).
  • Ability to work with any area (legs, face, fluff above the upper lip, armpits, bikini).

Recovery period

The effectiveness of the laser and the likelihood of developing side effects depend on compliance with the rules during the rehabilitation period (the specialist gives a special instruction after the procedure).

After laser hair removal you need:

  • Apply restorative or soothing cream to the treated area (products with panthenol are recommended) for up to 3 days;
  • avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, do not visit the solarium and baths for 14 days;
  • on the first day, avoid water treatments. In the next 2 weeks, use soap or products without aggressive components for washing;
  • It is forbidden to scratch the treatment area even with severe itching and remove crusts (they can occur in rare cases);
  • When going outside, apply cream with ultraviolet protection, otherwise pigment spots may appear;
  • You cannot use cosmetics (except those prescribed by a cosmetologist) for 14 days;
  • if possible, eliminate the use of medications (especially antibiotics, hormonals and blood thinners) for 10 days;
  • physical activity is prohibited for 5 days;
  • Do not massage in the treated area for up to 10-14 days.

Until the end of the hair removal course, between sessions, hair removal in the laser affected area is allowed only with a razor. The first shaving is allowed a week after the procedure.
