The benefits of massage procedures have been proven in a number of cases; this method will be relevant for both the body and the face. Proper impact on the skin not only improves blood circulation, but also relieves muscle tension, has a beneficial effect on metabolic processes and promotes active relaxation. It would seem that the procedure itself is effective and self-sufficient, but it can also be done better. The effect is improved by using a special massage cream, which not only increases the level of comfort, but also additionally saturates the skin with useful components.

Main characteristics
Number | Characteristics | Recommendations |
1 | Purpose | Depending on the composition, creams are: warming, regenerating, moisturizing, nourishing, toning, anti-cellulite, relaxing. |

The difference between cream and oil, lotion
Oils, lotions, and creams are used to moisturize the client’s skin and the specialist’s hands. The latter version of the cosmetic product is more convenient and effective. Why?
The lotion has a more liquid structure. The composition includes water and a small amount of oil.
Thanks to this consistency, the cosmetic product is quickly absorbed. Suitable for thin, sensitive skin. However, during massage this property is considered negative. You will have to repeat moisturizing too often or apply more product, which is not very convenient.
Oils have a strong effect, remain on the skin for a long time, and allow you to calmly perform all massage manipulations. The remaining product is removed with a napkin. The main disadvantage is the possibility of causing an allergic reaction. Moreover, in lower concentrations the allergy does not manifest itself.
Massage cream is a cross between lotion and oil. The cosmetic product stays on the skin for a long time and is slowly absorbed. The concentration of oils is sufficient to nourish the skin, but does not provoke allergies.

Lubricants[edit | edit code]

.
Textbook for universities. Author:
Professor A.A.
Biryukov; Ed.
"Academy", 2004.
In the practice of teaching massage techniques and conducting private sessions, various lubricants are often used to help the hands glide over the skin, thereby protecting it from excessive irritation and trauma. Currently, both abroad and in Russia, many professional massage therapists prefer to massage with oil, cream, etc. Some recommend lubricating your hands with massage cream or oil, others recommend talcum powder, baby powder or rice powder.
In this regard, let us quote the statement of the famous French doctor and massage therapist J. Morfor: “A massage therapist who does not know how to massage without ointment (oil) is a mediocre massage therapist. Dry massage achieves rapid recovery; with dry massage, blood and lymph circulate more energetically, the local temperature is higher, and the effects of the techniques reach deeper layers of tissue with the same force.”
We recommend doing only dry massage, but we would like to say that if the patient has damp (sweaty) skin or the massage therapist’s hands are sweaty, then vigorous rubbing and squeezing can create strong friction and unpleasant or painful sensations, and in these cases you can use the mentioned lubricants substances, but in small areas of the body, for example on a joint, hand, muscle, etc. At the same time, kneading and striking techniques are also performed on damp skin.
The most acceptable lubricants are talc, baby powder, and rice powder. Talc absorbs sweat and fat well, makes the skin smooth and does not cause irritation, clogging the skin much less than cream (oil), and is easily washed off, although, of course, it is not an ideal product in the practice of a professional massage therapist. The disadvantage of talc is that it easily becomes dusty, especially when used ineptly.
Let us speak out in favor of the so-called dry massage, without the use of any lubricants: in this case, the massage therapist feels changes in the massaged tissues more subtly and achieves a thermal and reflex effect faster. Oils and creams, when massaged, together with sweat, sebum and dead skin flakes of the epidermis form a dirty mass, clogging the pores of the skin. After such a massage, you need to wash yourself with soap, and this, unfortunately, is not always possible.
In the practice of therapeutic massage, if the skin is very sensitive or too dry, a general massage session is recommended using cream, oil (olive, peach, stone fruit, etc.).
You can allow the use of various lubricants during a private massage. In addition to lubricants, during massage sessions they often use all kinds of special warming and therapeutic rubs, ointments such as apizartron, finalgon, tiger ointment, etc.
In therapeutic massage, in order to quickly and effectively restore the functions of an injured area of the body (muscles, joints, etc.), as well as for some diseases: myositis, radiculitis, myalgia, tendovaginitis, etc., massage therapists and doctors use various medicinal ointments and rubs and other aids that facilitate rehabilitation in a shorter time.
The effect of ointments, creams, gels, etc. on tissue is determined by the properties of their constituent ingredients. Thus, some ointments cause sharp tissue hyperemia (finalgon, gymnostogal, efkamon, etc.), others have an anti-edematous and anti-inflammatory effect.
Swelling and pain arising from injuries are a consequence of damage to small vessels, tissue hypoxia and increased capillary permeability. At the same time, blood circulation deteriorates (blood flow is usually disrupted), tissue nutrition and, accordingly, tissue regeneration (healing).
The use of ointments, gels and creams is aimed at analgesia (pain relief), reducing tissue irritation and inflammation, reducing swelling and hematoma, improving blood microcirculation (blood flow), stimulating tissue regeneration (tissue growth).
Painkillers include anesthetics, hyparin, plant extracts, antirheumatic drugs, etc. For fresh injuries, they do not use ointments, which can cause tissue hyperemia, but gels that have better absorption ability and a cooling effect. At the stage of rehabilitation after injury (the timing is determined by the degree and condition of the injury, etc.), ointments and creams without strong irritating effects are prescribed, which improve microcirculation in the tissues.
Before using ointments such as Nicoflex, Apisatron, Dolpic, etc., you should check the skin's reaction to them. To do this, squeeze out a drop of ointment from the tube and apply it to the skin of the massaged area and monitor the reaction. If the ointment is tolerated by the patient, massage is performed using it. During the session, you can increase the amount of ointment, but not more than 0.5 cm.
If the sore spot is too sensitive to mechanical stress, you can massage it above or below it: the medicinal components contained in the ointments will be delivered to the sore spot through the blood vessels.
Strong rubs or ointments should be used with extreme caution. After using products like Dolpic, Finalgon, Nicoflex, in order to avoid severe burning of the skin, it is not recommended to use a hot shower or any other thermal procedures.
The method of using ointments and rubs is as follows: first, a regular massage is performed on the sore spot, and 3 - 5 minutes before the end of the massage session, the desired ointment or rub is applied (the amount of which is determined by the size of the area being massaged, the strength of the ointment and the purpose of the massage) and the massage is continued using the same techniques that were used previously. After rubbing the ointment, the sore spot should be kept warm, wrapped in a warm cloth, preferably woolen.
If the burning sensation is severe, the area being massaged can be lubricated with Vaseline or cream.
When massaging with dolpik and finalgon, a film is formed on the skin, which interferes with the therapeutic effects of subsequent rubbings, so before the next rubbing, you need to take a hot shower.
Despite the fact that the pharmaceutical industry produces many new high-quality synthetic drugs, we must not forget about folk remedies. So, for lumbosacral radiculitis, muscle pain, bruises, sprains, horseradish root gruel is recommended as a warming agent - for rubbing or compress. Prepare a compress like this. Grated horseradish is applied to gauze in a layer of about 0.5 cm. Then the gauze with the gruel is dipped in warm water to eliminate the burning effect of horseradish, and quickly pulled out, after which you can make a compress (hold for 20 - 30 minutes).
For inflammation of the joints, myositis, gout, rheumatism, use an infusion of birch buds in alcohol (1:5). This tincture can be used as a rub or compress after a three to five minute massage.
For various bruises, sprains, and gout, a compress made from ox (medicinal) bile helps well. This compress is applied at night.
For lumbosacral radiculitis, a sour dough compress is very effective. First you need to rub 15 - 20 g of turpentine into the sore spot. Keep the compress for no more than 40-50 minutes, applying it daily for four to six days.
When using ointments, you need to make sure that it does not get on sensitive areas of the skin or the mucous membrane of the nose, eyes, etc. If this cannot be avoided, apply Vaseline or some oil to areas of severe skin irritation and then remove it with a cotton swab.
After a massage performed with rubbing, hands are first washed with cold water and soap, and then again with hot water and soap. This is the only way to wash off the remnants of ointment and rubbing from your hands.
Often, when performing procedures using ointments and rubs, massage therapists use various devices for rubbing them in: rubber gloves, special graters, etc. This is not contraindicated, but the effect of the massage will be weaker.
How to choose a massage cream
To choose the right cosmetics according to individual needs and preferences, we recommend taking into account several characteristics. This is the purpose of the product, composition, skin type, and the effect promised by the manufacturer. Let's take a closer look at each point.
Purpose
Choose which cream is suitable for massage based on the indications for use indicated on the label. Conventionally, products can be divided into several groups, depending on areas of application:
- for the face - moisturizing compositions with additional caring components aimed at correcting oval shape, combating age-related changes, improving tone, increasing firmness and elasticity;
- for the body - universal products that can be applied not only to the face and décolleté, but also to other areas of the body to eliminate swelling, fat deposits, increase the elasticity of the epidermis, and improve local blood flow.
What to choose from this is a purely individual question. It all depends on which problem areas you want to work on with the help of a chiropractor or cosmetologist.
Compound
Most of the products on sale are multifunctional. Accordingly, the formula includes several active ingredients. As a rule, these are warming additives that accelerate local blood flow, moisturizing and toning components, oils, antioxidants for tightening and rejuvenation.
It is important that the origin of the composition is natural, the manufacturer excludes the presence of preservatives, dyes, parabens, sulfates and other provocateurs of allergic reactions. High quality is guaranteed by hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly products.
Skin type
It is also important to choose which cream to use for massage based on the type of dermis. For high fat content, formulations with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial ingredients are suitable. If you are prone to dryness and flaking, use softening, moisturizing formulations. Hypoallergenic cosmetics are suitable for sensitive types.
Effect
The list of promised effects is usually indicated by the developer on the label. We have presented you with various products - for weight loss, figure correction, rejuvenation, hydrobalance control, etc. We also consider preventive, care, and therapeutic products based on the principle of operation.
Which ones can be used for swelling
Massage helps to cope with this problem. After a high-quality procedure, serious changes are noticeable, the oval of the face becomes clearer, the skin is more elastic. You can enhance the effect of the massage with the help of decongestant cream. You need to choose a product according to your dermis type, age and other characteristics of the body. An important factor will be the composition of the cream. Decongestant components are:
- caffeine and tannin,
- guarana extract,
- horsetail extracts,
- the cat is welcome,
- ginkgo biloba.
It is also desirable to have essential oils such as orange, grapefruit and rosemary.
Which massage cream is better?
After getting acquainted with the Vyborexperta.ru nominees and evaluation criteria, choosing which cream to buy in your individual case will be much easier. We do not give unambiguous recommendations, but we highlight several rating positions:
- Freedom ballet massage – pain relief for stretch marks, bruises, warming effect to increase the effectiveness of manual procedures of the whole body;

Caution: allergen
Basic advice: try not to purchase creams containing nuts. Walnut is the most important allergen. If a client has a food intolerance to such a fruit, then creams with its extract will have a detrimental effect on his body. In addition, if a person is allergic, it is better to use a hypoallergenic drug for him so as not to risk it. You also need to pay attention to whether the cream contains fragrances (specific odor). A creamy aroma can also cause a negative reaction from the client: headache, nausea, vomiting, rash. Therefore, it is better if the massage cream is odorless or has a light neutral aroma.
Features of choice
When choosing a massage product, it is important to pay attention to the content of alcohols, parabens and mineral oils in the cream. These are the main skin irritants. It is better if your cream does not contain these components. But vitamins are very welcome. The main thing is to know which ones your skin needs. The most common is cream with vitamin A. Most often, this product is used for the face.
Facial massage cream should be selected individually. It is necessary to take into account all the characteristics of the body and skin. Some women use anti-wrinkle cream instead of massage oil. This is not always useful. After all, such a cream is completely unsuitable for young skin. Therefore, it is better to entrust your face to a professional.
