Skin is not only a reliable protective barrier for the body. Her condition is one of the main indicators of a woman’s beauty and health. Unfortunately, it is impossible to preserve the skin in its original form; with age, it becomes less elastic and elastic. Although the signs of aging cannot be prevented, they can be delayed. But it is very difficult to get rid of such a defect as stretch marks. You cannot remove them completely, you can only make them less noticeable, and laser stretch mark removal will help you with this.

What are stretch marks and where do they come from?

Stretch marks, or striae, are unattractive pale stripes and scars on the skin, located in different directions and having different widths and depths. They are painless and do not pose a threat to human health, but they significantly spoil the appearance and cause the appearance of complexes.

Most often, stretch marks appear on the skin of the abdomen, chest, thighs and buttocks in women during pregnancy against the background of weight gain and hormonal changes, which causes overstretching of the skin. If you have a genetically low content of elastic fibers in the dermis, then this problem will definitely occur.

Stretch marks can also appear as a result of too intense training, during puberty and in the postpartum period. When the skin is overstretched, epithelial cells cannot compensate for the lack of cellular mass, so the skin becomes thinner and tears. During the regeneration process, breaks are replaced by connective tissue, forming striae.

The areas where the skin is stretched do not immediately become pale. After they appear, they have a red or dark blue tint, due to the presence of blood capillaries in the tears. Gradually, the blood leaves the vessels, they become empty, and the stretch marks turn white. It is quite difficult to remove this skin blemish; you will have to spend a lot of time and patience to fight it. The most important thing is to start treatment as soon as stretch marks appear, and not to postpone the procedure until later.

Fresh stretch marks that appeared less than a year ago and have a light pinkish tint can still be cured and completely removed even using home methods. You cannot get rid of old white stretch marks; you can only make them less noticeable using laser stretch mark removal procedures. Remember that there is no pigment in scars, and therefore they do not tan and become visually more pronounced in the summer.

Laser stretch mark removal is an effective procedure that can completely or at least partially rid you of this unattractive blemish.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

As the name suggests, stretch marks occur as a result of sudden stretching of the dermis, for example, during pregnancy. They usually look like long or short stripes on the skin. In medicine, stretch marks are called striae (lat. striae gravidarum). Most often, stretch marks appear on the hips, buttocks, abdomen, chest, and sometimes on the shoulders. Their appearance is influenced by two factors:

  1. Physical factor. If you look closely at the areas where stretch marks appear, these are often the parts of the body that gain weight the fastest.

This stretches the dermal layer, causing tears in the skin. Stretch marks tend to appear with weight gain, which is why they often occur during pregnancy. Striae are also observed in athletes who quickly gain muscle mass. Since stretch marks during pregnancy are caused by excess weight, expectant mothers are advised not to overeat. But you shouldn’t limit your diet too much, because a lack of nutrients can become a threat to both the mother and the unborn baby.

  1. Hormonal factor. According to research, hormonal imbalance also affects the formation of stretch marks. A hormonal surge during pregnancy or puberty leads to a decrease in the synthesis of elastin and collagen fibers, as a result of which the skin loses its elasticity and ruptures.

Stretch marks often first appear during puberty, when a growth spurt occurs. Scars appear precisely during this period, because during the process of growth the skin continuously stretches, and much more than before. Another lesser-known cause of stretch marks is Cushing's syndrome. Stretch marks are a symptom of this condition, which is characterized by increased cortisol production, as well as excess weight gain and thinning of the skin, leading to the formation of purple scars.

There are 2 types of stretch marks

Stretch marks vary in color and shape, they can be divided into two types:

  1. Red stretch marks. Formed due to overstretching of the dermis. With red stretch marks, the underlying layer containing capillaries becomes noticeable.
  2. White stretch marks. These silvery-white marks occur when capillaries are replaced by fat underneath the dermis.

How to prevent stretch marks

More and more people are asking questions about how to remove stretch marks after losing weight. To answer the question of how to get rid of stretch marks, first of all, you need to drink more water and properly moisturize your skin. To protect your skin from scarring, follow these guidelines:

  • Drink a lot of clean water every day - it is good for the whole body. In addition, this is a great way to prevent stretch marks. Scars do not form on moisturized skin, even if you gain weight or build muscle.

A common misconception we hear is that you need to drink eight glasses of water a day. In fact, how much water to consume depends on each individual. This is affected by the foods you eat, the medications you take, and the drinks you drink throughout the day. You can tell if you're drinking enough water by looking at your urine—its quantity, color, and smell. If you haven't urinated for several hours in a row, you're probably not drinking enough water to flush toxins out of your body.

  • Eat right - by consuming healthy foods, you will ensure a complete balance of minerals and vitamins in the body. By eating a balanced diet, you can also avoid sudden weight changes that cause stretch marks. Eating a healthy diet also helps you keep your weight under control and avoid gaining fat mass, which is often the cause of scarring on the abdomen and thighs.
  • Limit your alcohol intake—avoid drinking excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages whenever possible. Alcohol leads to dehydration, leaving the skin drier and more vulnerable to stretch marks.
  • Moisturize your skin – use moisturizer immediately after your bath while your skin is still damp. This will help the beneficial substances penetrate the skin faster and keep the skin hydrated and elastic. Often pregnant women note that the rapidly stretching skin of the abdomen itches. Moisturizer also helps soothe itching.
  • Stock up on vitamin E - it is famous for its beneficial properties for the skin. Vitamin E helps maintain collagen in the skin, thereby maintaining its elasticity.
  • Use sun protection – Sunscreen alone can't prevent stretch marks, but it helps keep your skin healthy and beautiful. Sun exposure can make scars and marks more visible and also significantly increases the risk of skin cancer. Use an effective sunscreen when out in the sun. Among other things, the sun's rays can destroy collagen fibers in the skin, making it more susceptible to stretch marks.
  • Exercise regularly – Exercise helps control weight and maintain firm skin, which together reduces the risk of stretch marks.

The above tips are just some of the ways to prevent stretch marks from forming. Don’t despair if you have stretch marks, because at some stages in life it’s natural. This is just one way the body adapts to changes in its size. However, if you develop too many stretch marks, you may want to change your lifestyle to avoid gaining or losing weight too dramatically. Try the following remedies to help you say goodbye to stretch marks.

What is the essence of laser stretch mark removal?

What is laser stretch mark removal? The essence of the procedure is that scar tissue is exposed to a laser beam.

This physical effect stimulates cellular regeneration and restoration processes in the dermis.

It is thanks to this feature that laser removal of scars and stretch marks has become a very popular cosmetic procedure.

Laser exposure to stretch marks leads to the destruction of connective tissue scars and activation of cell division in this area. The destroyed connective tissue begins to be replaced by newly synthesized elastic and collagen fibers.

Gradually, with each subsequent procedure, the defective areas are replaced by epidermal cells, and stretch marks become less noticeable.

On the way to beautiful and healthy skin, a client of a cosmetology salon goes through four stages of treatment:

  1. Laser exposure.

Laser beams, fractionally affecting the surface of the epidermis, penetrate one to two millimeters into it.

  1. Natural tissue restoration.

The intense impact of the laser stimulates natural repair processes in tissues and the formation of new collagen and elastic fibers.

  1. Smoothing the skin with its own collagen.

Newly synthesized collagen gradually displaces the connective tissue that forms striae.

  1. Elimination of stretch marks.

In places where stretch marks and scars are located, smooth, smooth and beautiful skin is formed.

Elimination of stretch marks using hardware cosmetology

Modern hardware cosmetology has a rich range of techniques that are very effective against stretch marks, especially those that have appeared recently. All hardware procedures can be performed after the end of lactation and weight stabilization.

Laser resurfacing

The procedure is quite radical and is prescribed for old or large stretch marks. With complete resurfacing, the upper layers of skin cells are completely destroyed, they are subsequently replaced by new cells, as if the scars are being pushed out. In addition, during the procedure, the laser beam forms microthermal zones, which are centers for activating the synthesis of collagen and elastin. As a result, the skin is noticeably healthier and tightened.

Laser resurfacing

After laser resurfacing, the treated areas require careful care. Recovery takes several months. During this period it is dangerous to be in the sun, so the procedure is not performed in the summer and late spring.

Photos before and after laser resurfacing

Price: 40-300 rub./cm2.

When can it be done: after the end of lactation and weight stabilization.

Laser peeling

Lean hardware method. It is based on the use of a laser beam that penetrates directly into the rupture site. The laser heats the affected area and softens it. Collagen synthesis is activated in dermal cells. The surface of the skin is evened out, fresh and small stretch marks disappear almost completely, older and deeper ones become less noticeable.

Laser peeling

Laser peeling traumatizes the skin; it needs restorative care. It is forbidden to be in the sun for 2-3 months after the procedure.

Price: 40-300 rub./cm2

When can it be done: after the end of lactation and weight stabilization.

Vacuum massage

Hardware vacuum massage painlessly “breaks” subcutaneous fat. The effect is summed up by increased blood and lymph flow in the skin and muscles, accelerating the restoration of dermal tears. Most effective in combination with other procedures.

The vacuum massage device alternately pumps and pumps out air from special suction cups. Massage can be performed in two ways:

  1. Stable way. The suction cup is applied to a certain area for 2-3 minutes, then moved to another.

  2. Labile method. The suction cup is smoothly moved over the entire stretch mark area.

Price: 800-1700 rub./procedure

When can it be done: after the end of lactation and weight stabilization.

Fractional photothermolysis

Fractional photothermolysis or Fraxel is one of the most effective methods for treating mature stretch marks. The device used to carry out the procedure splits the overall laser beam into many small beams. These rays seem to pierce the skin, creating microchannels in it. At the same time, the cells around these “punctures” remain undamaged and begin to actively regenerate them. Regeneration occurs through the synthesis of large amounts of collagen and elastin.

Laser photothermolysis

Before photothermolysis, an anesthetic gel is applied to the skin. The time required depends on the area being treated. The cosmetologist will spend 40-50 minutes on the hips. Pain is moderate. At the end, a soothing cream is applied, which you will need to use at home. After the procedure, the skin needs protection from UV radiation.

Price: 500 rub./cm2

When can it be done: after the end of lactation and weight stabilization.

Myostimulation

The method is based on the effect of microcurrents on muscles. As a result, blood and lymph circulation improves, metabolism accelerates, and the skin restores its elasticity. A course of procedures is recommended.

Myostimulation

The essence of the method: electrodes are applied to the skin, delivering an impulse to the nerve endings. The signal from the neurons goes to the muscles and they begin to actively work - contract. After several training procedures, muscle tone and elasticity are restored, and metabolism is activated. Such changes are especially beneficial in areas with stretch marks.

Price: 2000-2500 rubles/procedure.

When can it be done: after the end of lactation and weight stabilization.

Laser stretch mark removal methods

Laser stretch mark and scar removal involves two different skin resurfacing methods:

  1. Full (classical) grinding is carried out with an erbium laser. With its help, cells are evaporated at the required depth and area, as a result of which fibroblasts are activated and the body’s work aimed at tissue restoration is activated. The depth of laser exposure is set individually for each client, so this type of resurfacing can be carried out both on the superficial and deeper layers of the skin.

Laser removal of stretch marks in this way is painful, so when treating small areas, local anesthesia is given, and for a large area of stretch marks, general anesthesia is used.

  1. Removal of stretch marks using fractional laser thermolysis - this method of laser removal of stretch marks differs from the previous one in that during the procedure the affected areas are affected fractionally, i.e. selectively, and healthy skin is not affected by the laser. This method gives a more noticeable remodeling result and is less painful and dangerous.

For the above laser stretch mark removal techniques, special lasers are used.

Advice from cosmetologists on how to improve the results of procedures

When figuring out how to remove stretch marks on the body, do not forget that in addition to salon procedures, you will still have to take some steps on your own. Professionals advise not to rely entirely on cosmetology, but to take independent steps to significantly improve the result.

  • Maintain proper drinking regime. Lack of moisture can negatively affect skin elasticity.
  • It is also better to adjust your diet, add more vitamins A and E, omega fatty acids, and hyaluronic acid.
  • To avoid capillary fragility, which directly affects the color of stretch marks, turning them brown, consume more foods rich in zinc and ascorbic acid.
  • Do homemade masks and massages regularly to enhance the effect of hardware cosmetology.
  • A good mood and relief of any symptoms of stress will help the body devote all its resources to fighting stretch marks.

Moderate physical activity helps you stay in shape. By regularly performing any set of exercises, you also train your skin, it becomes more elastic and stretches better. Therapeutic gymnastics has a good effect on the body and the condition of the epidermis. However, you need to choose such an activity for yourself individually, preferably with the participation of your doctor and sports coach.

Truth and myths about stretch marks on the body

There are several common misconceptions that still prevent us from effectively dealing with this problem. Therefore, it is better not to listen to idle conversations in the kitchen and advice from those who do not understand anything about the issue, but to turn to medical knowledge.

Stretch marks – a visual and superficial defect

This is the most common myth. In fact, this effect is far from just visual; the epidermis is actually seriously injured and torn. This happens when a malfunction occurs in the functioning of fibroblasts, where collagen and elastin are produced.

In this case, the fibers begin to tear deep inside the skin. Only over time does the stretch mark appear. Therefore, stretch marks cannot be called superficial.

Pregnancy is the only cause of stretch marks

This misconception is not even worth discussing separately. Anyone interested can return to the subsection about the causes of defects, as well as their most common locations.

Healthy lifestyle is a guarantee against the occurrence of stretch marks

Many people think that maintaining an optimal weight, healthy eating, and constant physical activity can somehow protect you from unsightly skin blemishes. However, this is not entirely true. Of course, the risk of their occurrence is noticeably reduced, but there are no guarantees that they may occur in the future. It is worth noting that stretch marks occur not only in overweight people, but also in thin people, which fully proves our conclusions.

Light stretch marks are good, and dark stretch marks are evil.

In fact, it doesn’t matter at all what color the stretch marks haunt you. Usually their color depends on the degree of oldness of the scar, as well as the activity of the blood supply to the problem area. Since the mechanism of their occurrence is absolutely the same in all cases, without exception, the fight against them will be absolutely identical.

There is no way to completely get rid of stretch marks at home.

As sad as it may be, this is the true truth. No homemade or purchased products, water or other procedures, proper food and exercises can completely rid you of stretch marks, although they will noticeably soften their appearance. You can make them almost invisible, but they will still remain with us, as a silent reminder of the not-so-good skin condition. Injured tissues lie very deep and cannot completely “dissolve.”

It is extremely important to accept and love your stretch marks, along with your entire imperfect body, so that life does not turn into a continuous struggle with stretch marks. The most desperate ones turn to plastic surgeons who can help, but for most, such pleasure is not available. And for medical reasons, not everyone can undergo such operations. Therefore, you need to realize that there is a problem and stop delving too deeply into it. Your body is unique, so it doesn't hurt to love it the way it is.

Basics of preventing stretch marks

Having finally figured out what stretch marks are and why fighting them may be ineffective, it’s worth thinking about another question. It is important to understand what to do before you have this problem. Prevention does not provide a 100% guarantee that you will not have any skin damage, but it significantly increases the elasticity of the skin, which reduces the risk of stretch marks to a minimum. There are three main postulates that will have to be followed.

  • Watch your diet . This is a very important rule of prevention, since by organizing the right regimen and choosing healthy foods, you can easily avoid sudden weight gain or loss, which will prevent skin damage. Lean fish and meat, more vegetables and fruits, less baked goods and sweets will help maintain not only the beauty of the body, but also health for many years.
  • Practice contrast showers . If you take it as a habit, you will see that it is quite capable of preventing the occurrence of stretch marks, and in addition, even making existing ones less noticeable and pale. The correct alternation of cold and hot water significantly stimulates metabolic processes in the skin, and the jets from the shower also perform massage functions.
  • Play sports . Of course, we are talking about regular, feasible loads, and not about exhausting training “for wear and tear”. Moderate body culture has never harmed anyone. You don’t have to chase fashion or ignore someone’s advice, but choose classes that suit you: cycling, fitness, Zumba, Pilates, yoga, kettlebell lifting, swimming, bungee and much more. This will not only reduce the appearance of unsightly stripes on the body, but will also improve your general condition and improve your health.

Based on all of the above, it can be argued that only persistent, daily work on yourself will help you get rid of stretch marks on the skin, if you do not take into account surgical intervention. But even if prevention is unsuccessful, and stretch marks appear on the body, then you can really find many methods that will help, if not completely remove them, then make them invisible, barely visible.

What types of lasers are used to remove stretch marks?

Several types of lasers are used to carry out cosmetic procedures. They are classified according to their effectiveness and depth of penetration into tissue.

Excimer laser

For laser removal of stretch marks that formed more than a year ago, experts advise using this particular type of device.

The intense ultraviolet beam generated by the laser affects stretch marks, destroying connective tissue cells. After the procedure, a crust forms on the skin, which disappears after a few days. New covering tissues are formed under it during the healing process.

The excimer laser activates the synthesis of melatonin, which is responsible for the color of the skin, so that stretch marks acquire the shade of healthy skin.

Laser removal of stretch marks using a device of this type guarantees an excellent result, because instead of cutting or burning, the bonds between molecules in the affected area are broken down. Thanks to this, a healthy epidermis is formed as quickly as possible.

But this method of laser stretch mark removal has one contraindication. The procedure is prohibited for persons suffering from photodermatosis (allergy to ultraviolet radiation).

Dermal optical thermolysis (DOT)

DOT is the latest effective method of laser removal of stretch marks, which involves selective (fractional) effects on the skin.

A beam of laser beams produces a huge amount of small thermal damage in the skin, due to which the process of synthesis of new elastic and collagen fibers is activated.

This method of laser stretch mark removal allows you to remove old defects. That is why many cosmetology clinics actively and successfully practice DOT.

This procedure gives a number of positive results:

  • the surface of the skin is leveled;
  • the epidermis becomes more elastic and elastic;
  • stretch marks, scars, scars, post-acne are removed;
  • pigment spots and fine wrinkles disappear;
  • White stretch marks are completely eliminated.

Laser Palomar

This laser is fractional and provides precise treatment of the affected areas. Microscopic beams of laser beams penetrate the layers of the epidermis and initiate natural tissue healing.

Laser stretch mark removal using this device guarantees the following results:

  • disappearance of stretch marks that occurred during pregnancy;
  • elimination of even the deepest wrinkles;
  • narrowing of pores;
  • increasing the elasticity of the skin and restoring its texture;
  • removal of scars and scars;
  • getting rid of age spots and rosacea (spider veins and spider veins).

Laser Fraxel

Getting rid of stretch marks using this device is carried out by exposing the surface layers of the skin to low energy. Therefore, this device can perform laser removal of stretch marks even on the chest, where the skin is delicate and sensitive.

Getting rid of stretch marks using this device is absolutely safe and does not cause complications, since only the upper layers of the epidermis are affected. The rehabilitation period after the procedure is only one day.

Erbium laser

Laser removal of stretch marks after childbirth is carried out with an erbium laser. This procedure is delicate and safe, since the rays penetrate the epidermis by only 1–5 microns.

The process of getting rid of dead cells occurs so quickly that nearby areas of the skin do not heat up, which is why the erbium laser is called “cold”.

Qualified specialists will select the type of device that is needed in this particular case. After laser stretch mark removal by an experienced cosmetologist, clients are always satisfied with the result.

Regardless of the device chosen, laser stretch mark removal is carried out according to a specific scenario.

Application of injection procedures

The purpose of the injections is to improve the texture and color of the skin, reconstruct collagen fibers and provoke elastin synthesis. Usually, several procedures are performed to achieve the effect, the number of which is determined by the doctor depending on the condition of the stretch marks.

Mesotherapy

Microinjections make it possible to introduce various active drugs into the shallow layers of the skin to stimulate regenerative processes, nutrition, and hydration. The procedure is effective not only against stretch marks, but also in the fight against excess weight and cellulite. The result depends on the selected meso cocktail.

Mesotherapy for stretch marks on thighs

Mesotherapy is carried out using a syringe with a thin needle or a mesoinjector, a device with a large number of thin short needles. Before starting the injections, an anesthetic gel is applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. Rehabilitation after the procedure is not required, you just need to refrain from visiting the pool, sauna, solarium and drinking alcohol for 7-14 days.

Price: 3000-8000 rub./1 zone.

When can it be done: can be done after the end of lactation

Carboxytherapy

Carboxytherapy is injections of medical carbon dioxide.

Carboxytherapy

Carbon dioxide entering the dermis has the following effects:

  • stimulates blood circulation;
  • accelerates the transition of oxygen from the blood to the dermis;
  • locally dilates blood vessels, more nutrients and oxygen enter the cells;
  • metabolism accelerates;
  • active synthesis of your own collagen begins.

Price: from 2500 rub./1 procedure

When can it be done: after childbirth and completion of lactation.

Bioreparation

This is a procedure that allows you to rejuvenate the skin by introducing upgraded hyaluronic acid with vitamins and amino acids. After injection, these substances begin to actively work, accelerating collagen synthesis, increasing skin tone, making it more elastic and healthy. Bioreparation is performed in a course of 3-5 procedures, with at least 3 weeks between them.

Bioreparation

How to do it:

  1. An anesthetic is applied to the skin.
  2. The drug is injected with a thin needle every 2 cm.
  3. The treated area is soothed with a special gel.

For 7-14 days after the procedure, it is not recommended to sunbathe, go to the bathhouse or sauna. Physical activity and alcohol consumption are also contraindicated. Minor bruises, swelling, swelling - side effects of injections disappear within 1-3 days.

Price: 9000-11000 rub./procedure.

When can it be done: after childbirth and completion of lactation.

Collagen injections

Such injections replenish the supply of collagen in the skin, while simultaneously enhancing the synthesis of its own.

The drug that is administered is a gel. Its main component is collagen. When injected into the skin, it stimulates the destruction of old collagen fibers and the synthesis of new ones. The immune system does not react to the drug as if it were a foreign object, so side effects from the procedure are very rare.

Collagen injections for the correction of stretch marks

To significantly reduce the number and depth of stretch marks, 4-7 procedures are necessary. Injections are carried out with local anesthesia with a special gel.

Price: RUB 8,000-14,000/procedure, depending on the area and condition of the stretch marks.

When can it be done: after childbirth and completion of lactation.

Ozone therapy

The introduction of an ozone-oxygen mixture subcutaneously has a positive effect on blood circulation. As a result, the dermis is quickly cleared of metabolic products and is saturated with the necessary nutrition. In addition, ozone stimulates the skin’s own ability to regenerate, cells begin to actively divide, and stretch marks gradually decrease.

Ozone therapy

It is recommended to combine the procedure with mesotherapy and laser techniques. Ozone injections over several sessions compare stretch marks with the tone and texture of healthy skin.

Price: 2000-2500 rubles/procedure.

When can it be done: after childbirth and completion of lactation.

How does laser stretch mark removal work?

Laser removal of stretch marks is carried out using standard technology:

  1. An anesthetic cream is applied to the affected areas of the skin or the client is given general anesthesia.
  2. Stretch marks are affected by laser radiation.

If the patient for some reason refuses pain relief, experts suggest that he perform the procedure using the Palomar laser, which cools the skin and thereby reduces pain. In addition, a session with this device will last from 30 to 50 minutes, and when carrying out fractional thermolysis it will take about two hours. Typically, laser removal of stretch marks using the Palomar device leads to excellent results.

However, like any other medical intervention, laser stretch mark removal has its advantages and disadvantages.

How to prevent stretch marks from appearing during pregnancy: prevention

Preventing the appearance of stretch marks during pregnancy involves maintaining skin elasticity.

What do we have to do:

  • Maintaining a high level of skin hydration. This will be helped by skincare procedures, drinking enough water and a varied diet high in vitamins C, A, D, E, microelements, and high-quality protein.
  • Body weight control. A strict diet is contraindicated for pregnant women, but there is no need to allow sudden weight gain, even during pregnancy.
  • Massage and maintaining muscle tone with the help of suitable exercises and an active lifestyle will also help, if not prevent the appearance of stretch marks, then certainly reduce their number and severity.

It is possible to reduce the likelihood of stretch marks, although basic activities begin long before pregnancy and turn them into a good habit.

Pros and cons of laser stretch mark removal

This procedure has many advantages. Laser is an effective tool for removing a wide range of skin defects, including pigmentation, scars, spider veins, stars, etc.

Laser stretch mark removal has become very popular, because among its advantages :

  • No pain due to anesthesia.
  • Instant effect immediately after the procedure.
  • Elimination of both newly formed and old stretch marks.
  • Safety.
  • Long-term results.

The main disadvantage of laser stretch mark removal is long-term rehabilitation after the procedure. The laser can burn up to 1 mm of the epidermis in just one session, depending on the age and depth of the stretch marks. And after this, the skin must restore the injured areas, covering itself with a new layer. Typically, the rehabilitation period is about a month.

This leads to the second disadvantage - the duration of the course. The procedure itself is quick, but the course of treatment consists of four to five sessions, so it may take you about six months. Considering skin problems during the rehabilitation period (itching, peeling, redness), this period causes discomfort for many. Clients are motivated only by increasingly noticeable results after each subsequent session of laser stretch mark removal.

The effectiveness of laser stretch mark removal is lower when affecting old stretch marks; it will not be possible to completely get rid of them. Thanks to the procedure, such stretch marks can be made less noticeable, smooth and uniform in color. But traces of such damage will still remain.

Discomfort and itching are another disadvantage of laser stretch mark removal. The procedure itself is painless, but the rehabilitation period is accompanied by unpleasant sensations in the treated area, similar to a sunburn.

Despite the fact that laser exposure is the most effective in the fight against stretch marks, it cannot always be used due to the presence of a number of contraindications.

Is it possible to completely remove stretch marks after pregnancy?

It is almost impossible to completely remove stretch marks using cosmetic and home procedures. You can only significantly reduce their visibility. And you need to remember that fresh stretch marks are corrected as much as possible. If the birth took place more than a year ago, it will be more difficult to get rid of it.

Some of the most effective procedures in cosmetology are using lasers. These include: laser resurfacing, laser peeling and fractional photothermolysis.

The only way to completely remove stretch marks is plastic surgery. For example, abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). But it is possible if there is excess skin and is expensive.

We will analyze all these methods in more detail below.

Contraindications to laser stretch mark removal

If a client has stretch marks and wants to get rid of them, he is prescribed laser stretch mark removal. The contraindications here are the same as for other procedures for which a laser is used:

  • The period of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • Diabetes mellitus type I or II.
  • Diseases of the cardiovascular system and hypertension.
  • Hormonal disorders.
  • Oncological diseases.
  • Epilepsy.
  • Acute infectious diseases.
  • Varicose veins in areas with stretch marks.
  • Tendency to develop keloid scars.
  • Inflammatory process in the treated area.
  • Allergy.
  • Performed a chemical peel procedure less than two weeks before laser stretch mark removal.

Application of professional cosmetology procedures

Cosmetic procedures give results in the case of an integrated approach and long-term use. They are best used as an addition to the procedures described above or in the fight against small and medium stretch marks.

Wraps

Wrapping is a method of influencing the skin and the body as a whole. The effect is achieved by applying any substance (algae, masks, therapeutic mud, clay) followed by wrapping the treated area with a film that creates a greenhouse effect. Due to this, the active components of the composition begin to act and the blood and lymph flow in the deep layers of the skin are activated.

Wrap

Types of wraps that help in the fight against stretch marks:

  • Thalassotherapy or seaweed wrap.
  • Using cosmetic oils.
  • Using mud and clay.
  • With special products for stretch marks. This wrap can be done at home.

Effect of skin wraps:

  • reduction in the size and severity of stretch marks;
  • acceleration of lymph flow, which cleanses not only the skin, but also the body as a whole;
  • nutrition and hydration;
  • cleansing of surface layers;
  • increase in turgor.

Price: from 2000 rub./procedure.

When can it be done: after childbirth and completion of lactation.

Manual professional massage

A pleasant and relaxing procedure. The blood flowing to areas with stretch marks during a massage saturates them with oxygen and nutrition, launching recovery processes.

Professional massage

Types of massage:

  • Classical. Techniques: stroking, rubbing, squeezing, kneading, vibration, patting. The massage therapist works the tissues to different depths.
  • Spot. It is based on the study of biologically active points that affect various organ systems.

Price: from 500 rub./procedure

When it can be performed: Breast massage can be performed only after childbirth and the end of lactation. Abdominal massage - after childbirth. You can massage your hips and buttocks during pregnancy and breastfeeding; in this case, the specialist will choose more gentle techniques.

Chemical peeling

This peeling essentially causes a chemical burn. Such damage destroys the top layer of skin, evening out its texture and activating the production of new collagen.

Chemical peeling

Chemical peels differ in the depth of impact:

  • Superficial . Minimal trauma to the skin, affecting only the epidermis. It is made with mandelic, salicylic, lactic and other acids.
  • Median. Penetrates more deeply. Preparations for such peeling contain several types of acids: trichloroacetic, salicylic, retinoic, a mixture of glycolic and lactic acids.
  • Deep. It is made on the basis of phenolic acid. It even copes with deep stretch marks, but it seriously injures the skin, so it is performed only by specialists.

Price: 1100-4000 rubles/procedure.

When to do it: after the birth of the baby and completion of breastfeeding.

Rehabilitation after laser stretch mark removal

Will laser removal of stretch marks on the abdomen work? This can be found out immediately after the completion of the rehabilitation period, because damaged skin requires special care:

  1. After the procedure, it is prohibited to visit saunas, baths, swimming pools and sunbathe. Otherwise, you may provoke the development of complications.
  2. It is impossible to rip off the formed crusts.
  3. For three to four days after laser removal of stretch marks, it is necessary to lubricate the injured skin with moisturizers and anti-inflammatory agents.
  4. Avoid sudden movements that may cause further damage to the treated area.
  5. If pain occurs, take painkillers.

If stretch marks are tears at the level of the dermis, is it possible in principle to get rid of them?

Elena Sibrina : “With the help of hardware and injection techniques, oral and external agents, you can reduce the severity of stretch marks. But the formed deep stretch mark will not recover to healthy skin. It's important to accept this fact."

Marina Miusova : “Like scars, stretch marks cannot be completely removed. You can adjust their thickness, color, and improve the density of the fabric. Then they will look like highlighted thin stripes.”

Tatyana Al Sabunchi: “Every girl who goes for procedures should understand: the skin will become better. In some cases - much better. But this is not one procedure, and traces will still remain.”

Many of us visualize everyday but to create the life we DON'T want. Often we imagine the worst outcome or become hyper-focused on imperfections. Deserving of my own affection. I want to admire this body. I want to celebrate this body. I want this to be MY body and not just a transitional body until I work hard for the hotter better one. How much does laser stretch mark removal cost?

How is the cost of the procedure calculated and how much does laser stretch mark removal cost? Its price is quite high, although it does not require any costs. This is explained by the high cost of the equipment and the duration of its operation. After all, it happens that in advanced situations, removing stretch marks, the device works for up to two hours without interruptions.

Also, the high price of the procedure is associated with the complexity of its implementation. The device settings are selected individually for each client in accordance with the severity of stretch marks and how long ago they appeared.

The specialist must carefully examine the patient’s skin and prescribe laser removal of stretch marks. The cost of this procedure is from three hundred rubles per square centimeter of skin. The penetration depth of the rays does not affect the price. If the client does a set of procedures at once, he receives a discount, thanks to which he can get rid of many defects at a lower cost. If you order laser removal of stretch marks one square centimeter at a time, it will cost approximately 500 rubles.

The cost of the procedure itself does not include the price of anesthesia. You should not skimp on painkillers, because laser removal of stretch marks can be very painful. Before you begin, check with your specialist about the cost of anesthesia.

Also, the price depends on the type of laser device. It was already said above that there are several types that differ from each other in intensity and depth of impact, and therefore their effectiveness and cost vary widely. Consider this moment.

It is also necessary to understand the duration of the treatment course. The cost of each subsequent procedure may decrease if the number of stretch marks is reduced. But don't expect a big price drop and be prepared for another large investment.

To achieve noticeable improvements in laser removal of stretch marks, you need to do about 3-6 procedures for stretch marks that formed less than a year ago, and 6-12 with a break of one or two months for old ones.

To get rid of stretch marks, other salon procedures are also used, which also give a certain effect, despite the fact that laser is considered the most effective method.

Causes

Stretch marks are microscopic tears in the top layers of skin and connective tissue. They occur in people of any age and gender. The most common locations are the abdomen, thighs, and buttocks.

Most often, stretch marks appear in women during pregnancy. This is due to changes in hormonal levels and rapid weight gain. The abdominal area is the most problematic area for women who have given birth.

Fresh stretch marks are always pink, reddish or brownish in color. Over time, they change color (over several months)─ becoming white, silver or white-violet.

The formation of stretch marks occurs for various reasons. Here are the main ones:

  • genetic predisposition;
  • intensive growth and development during adolescence;
  • lack of nutrients necessary for the formation of connective tissue;
  • excessively large abdominal volume;
  • sudden weight fluctuations;
  • endocrine pathologies (diseases of the pituitary gland, adrenal glands);
  • excessive physical activity;
  • long-term use of certain medications (for example, glucocorticosteroids).

It should be noted that stretch marks do not pose a health hazard. But they do not look very aesthetically pleasing and can cause psychological discomfort to a person.

Home Alternatives to Cosmetic and Laser Stretch Mark Removal

  1. Self-massage.

To avoid the appearance of stretch marks and the need for laser removal of stretch marks, you should do self-massage regularly. It improves blood flow in problem areas, which means their saturation with nutrients and vitamins increases, which helps accelerate regeneration. During the massage, use creams and oils. The abdomen and buttocks area should be massaged in a circular motion clockwise, and the hips and waist should be massaged from bottom to top. In cosmetic stores you can purchase special brushes designed to eliminate stretch marks.

  1. Cold and hot shower.

Has a positive effect on skin elasticity. It can be done in combination with light self-massage. After a shower, thoroughly rub the problem areas with a towel and apply anti-cellulite and stretch mark cream to them.

  1. Special homemade scrub.

To prepare the scrub you will need a glass of granulated sugar, a glass of salt and half a glass of vegetable oil. All these components must be thoroughly mixed and massaged onto the skin of problem areas. After the procedure, use a moisturizer or lotion.

  1. Coffee scrub.

To prepare this scrub, take 100 grams of ground coffee, pour boiling water over it and leave for 15 minutes. The result should be a thick coffee sediment, to which you should add a tablespoon of olive, coconut, flaxseed or rosehip oil. You can also use a few drops of essential oil: eucalyptus, grapefruit or orange.

  1. Mumiyo.

You can simply rub tablets dissolved in water into the skin. Or you can take one gram of mumiyo, a tablespoon of boiled water and 80 grams of baby cream, mix everything thoroughly. The resulting composition should be applied to problem areas every day. It must be stored in the refrigerator.

  1. Orange oil.

Orange essential oil, like other citrus oils, is recommended for self-massage. It is best to use it after taking a shower. Massage should be carried out with a canvas mitten or a special brush up to three times a week for two to three months.

  1. Rosemary oils.

Rosemary essential oil is also used to remove and prevent stretch marks. It, in the amount of 5-8 drops, is mixed with a teaspoon of almond oil and the resulting mass is rubbed into problem areas daily.

  1. Almond oil.

In order not to let the situation get worse and not resort to laser removal of stretch marks, use almond oil. It owes its effectiveness to the vitamin E it contains. The oil is easily and quickly absorbed into the skin without leaving any traces.

  1. Hazelnut oil.

It, like the previous one, is rich in vitamin E. You can use it as a separate product and rub it into the skin or apply it together with a scrub.

  1. Wheat germ oil.

It has a thick consistency and is also rich in vitamin E. The absorption time of this oil is longer than almond oil. Recommended for use during massage.

Prevention

In order to prevent the subsequent appearance of white stretch marks on the butt, thighs and other problematic parts of the body, you should follow a few simple rules.

Paying close attention to your body will help prevent the occurrence of:

  • be careful about your weight. Excessive body volume and weight contribute to the rapid formation of stretch marks;
  • when red and purple stretch marks appear on the skin, you need to take measures to eliminate them before they transform into dense scars made of connective tissue;
  • periodically treat the skin with cosmetic treatments using wraps, ointments, special creams and oils. They can be easily picked up at any pharmacy or cosmetics store. Regular care helps maintain the beauty of the skin for a long time;
  • In order to prevent the formation of stretch marks, you need to try to increase the firmness and elasticity of the skin. The best way to help with this is periodic self-massage sessions performed 1 or 2 times a week.

Only careful attention to your health and physical well-being will help prevent the formation of white stretch marks. Attentive skin care will be an excellent help for its unfading attractiveness.

What other salon procedures will help get rid of stretch marks?

In addition to laser removal of stretch marks, there are many other effective methods in cosmetology to combat stretch marks. These high-tech methods include:

  • Mesotherapy.

Mesotherapy is an effective skin care procedure for the face and body, which is the introduction through injection of microdoses of cocktails consisting of homeopathic remedies and vitamins. The composition is administered intradermally or subcutaneously to a depth of 2 to 4 mm.

With the help of mesotherapy, it is easy to deliver the medicinal substance to the right place without exposing the entire body. For example, when correcting a figure, obesity, getting rid of the “orange peel”, the drugs are administered into the subcutaneous fatty tissue, due to which fat deposits are removed in those areas of the body where it is difficult and almost impossible to burn them either with the help of training or with the help of proper nutrition.

  • Ozone therapy.

Ozone therapy, like laser stretch mark removal, is used to treat stretch marks. It is also used to prevent various diseases, cleanse the skin, strengthen the immune system and normalize metabolic processes.

  • Chemical peeling – polishing the skin using trichloroacetic and fruit acids.

Read the material on the topic: Chemical peeling of the face: your skin will breathe a new breath!

  • Hot and cold wraps are procedures aimed at removing stretch marks using chocolate, seaweed, honey, essential oils and various medicinal plants.

  • Microcurrent therapy is a procedure that stimulates the synthesis of connective tissue fibers.

Electrochemical processes continuously occur inside our body, ensuring its normal functioning and vital activity. Using hardware microcurrents, biological impulses are simulated, thereby catalyzing natural electrochemical reactions. Therefore, this procedure is considered one of the safest, but no less effective than laser stretch mark removal.

Hardware microcurrents have an anti-inflammatory and lymphatic drainage effect, stimulate regeneration, tone weakened muscles, normalize the functioning of the sebaceous glands and metabolism in cells, and strengthen the immune system. In addition to all of the above, microcurrent therapy improves the penetration of substances into the deep layers of the epidermis.

  • Microdermabrasion (micro-resurfacing).

Microdermabrasion is the resurfacing of the skin using microcrystals. This procedure is considered one of the most gentle methods of mechanical peeling. It is an absolutely safe, delicate, but at the same time quite effective method of combating age-related changes, stretch marks and other skin defects. The result is not inferior to laser stretch mark removal. During the procedure, the skin is not injured, inflammatory reactions do not occur, which means the risk of infection is reduced to zero.

Microdermabrasion has a stimulating effect on the superficial epidermal layers, due to which blood circulation improves in the treated areas and the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the cells increases. As a result, they begin to actively share and update. This procedure also helps exfoliate the stratum corneum of the skin, remove stretch marks, tighten pores and reduce wrinkles.

As a result of microdermabrasion, the skin becomes incredibly smooth and takes on a fresh and healthy appearance. This rejuvenating procedure tones the skin and restores its structure by stimulating the synthesis of collagen and elastic fibers.

Microdermabrasion also helps get rid of age spots, scars and scars resulting from surgical interventions and injuries, removes post-acne and helps remove stretch marks.

  • Radiofrequency lifting is a procedure that stimulates the production of elastin and collagen by applying electric current to the skin.

Skin treatment with radiofrequency energy is one of the newest and most popular achievements of modern cosmetology. The result after the procedure can be compared with the effect of plastic surgery, and in some cases it even surpasses it. This technology has found the same wide application in the treatment of “orange peel” and stretch marks as laser removal of stretch marks.

  • Plastic surgery , namely abdominoplasty, is one of the newest techniques used to treat many cosmetic defects if laser removal of stretch marks and other methods listed above are ineffective. It is used to remove stretch marks in the abdominal area by excision of damaged tissue.

Surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and the rehabilitation period is complex and lengthy. There are situations when abdominoplasty is performed in conjunction with laser resurfacing. After the operation, many complications may arise, a suppurative process may develop, and scars may form. Therefore, the decision to perform an operation must be well thought out and balanced. Is it worth jeopardizing your own health, since stretch marks do not affect your quality of life?

Before performing laser removal of stretch marks or any other of these complexes, you should definitely consult with an experienced doctor who will draw up an individual treatment program, taking into account your characteristics and the presence of contraindications. You cannot prescribe such procedures for yourself, but you can use cosmetics without fear for your health.

Introduction

Striae or stretch marks are common skin lesions resulting from stretching. There are two forms of stretch marks: red and white. Red stretch marks indicate an acute, earlier stage, characterized by an initial erythematous, red, stretched, flat (in some cases slightly raised) lesions located perpendicular to the direction of skin stretching.
White striae indicate a chronic stage with the development of atrophic, hypopigmented stripes. There are a number of pathological and histological changes that occur during the formation of striae. These include elastolysis in the middermis due to mast cell degranulation and macrophage stimulation, perivascular lymphocytic infiltration, increased glycosaminoglycans, sporadic presence of lymphocytes, and edema in the dermis. There is a gradually developing atrophy of the epidermis, including the disappearance of the elevation of the stripes. The formation of red stretch marks is due to vascular changes. At this stage, collagen fibers thicken, are more parallel and dense, and the number of elastic fibers decreases. Conversely, the vascularization of white striae is reduced.

According to the literature, the prevalence of striae among skin pathologies ranges from 11 to 88%. Striae are more common and more pronounced in black African women and people from the Caucasus. The vast majority of striae have been described in pregnant women and adolescents. Among the causes are Cushing's syndrome, long-term use of steroids, tissue stretching due to rapid growth in adolescence and rapid increase in the size of certain parts of the body, weight gain, obesity, hereditary predisposition. Most often, striae are located on the abdomen, breasts, buttocks and thighs. Striae present a significant challenge in terms of their evaluation and treatment. Response to therapy may have variable success.

The main goals of treatment are to reduce symptoms and improve appearance. There are various methods of treating and preventing stretch marks, including laser therapy, light therapy, acid peels, collagen injections, laser lipolysis, radiofrequency methods and microdermabrasion. No method guarantees complete elimination of stretch marks. The most common method for treating stretch marks is the use of topical agents. Only a limited number of topical agents have been evaluated in rigorous studies of their effectiveness in striae. (for example, tretinoin, Trofolastin, Alfastria, cocoa butter, olive oil and silicone gel), despite the fact that there are many topical products on the market that claim effectiveness, but without its official confirmation in full-fledged clinical studies.

An effective topical product should provide lasting improvement in the pigmentation and texture of both red and white striae, with minimal side effects, in patients of all skin types. Along with improvements in appearance and symptoms, there should be an increase in collagen production and fibroblastic activity, increased elasticity and vascularity, improved cell proliferation, increased skin hydration, and a decrease in inflammatory signs.

It is important to evaluate the evidence achieved using different topical agents. Overall, there has been insufficient clinical evaluation of these products and many studies have failed to demonstrate effectiveness. The purpose of this work is to evaluate the available evidence for the use of topical agents and propose a structured approach to the treatment of striae.

Materials and methods

A thorough search for information on topical products for the treatment of stretch marks was conducted on manufacturers' websites. In addition, using the search engines PubMed, Scopus and Embase, literature published in English since 1980 on the use of local remedies for striae was examined.

results

There are a number of topical products designed to treat stretch marks. These products are currently being debated, categorized by their mechanism of action, including their ability to stimulate collagen production, increase elasticity, improve cell proliferation, anti-inflammatory effects and rehydration.

Stimulating collagen production

Manufacturers of most topical products try to improve the appearance of stretch marks by stimulating collagen production to increase skin elasticity.

  • StriVectin-SD ® (StriVectin ®, New York, USA) is a cream designed to eliminate (reduce) stretch marks, wrinkles and other signs of skin aging. The active ingredient is the molecule NRU-114™. It is believed that the cream works by increasing the synthesis of collagen types I and IV. However, there is no published evidence of its effectiveness for striae.
  • Cussons ® is a cream for the prevention of stretch marks, manufactured by PZ Cussons Ltd, (Manchester, UK). It contains lupine seed extract, which stimulates collagen production in the skin. It is stated that the effectiveness of the cream is clinically proven. After 12 weeks of using the cream 2 times a day, 28 women showed a 16% improvement in skin elasticity. Information about this study on the company's website was short and did not include the results of peer-reviewed clinical trials.

A number of products contain the active ingredient Centella asiatica, which can stimulate cell production.

  • Liforma ® - a product for the prevention of stretch marks, available in the form of a day gel and night cream (Liforma ®, Reigate, UK), is a moisturizing cream containing Centella asiatica. A comparative study of the product was carried out by surveying 25 women, the Cream scored the highest result. However, these results were based on subjective assessment.
  • Trofolastin was used in a study for the prevention of striae, containing centella asiatica, tocopherol and collagen-elastin hydrolysates. It is assumed that centella stimulates fibroblasts and has an antagonistic effect on glucocorticoids. A randomized controlled trial was conducted comparing the effectiveness of the cream with placebo in 80 people. Their results showed that striae developed in 56% of patients in the control group, and in 34% of patients in the main group.
  • Clarins ® (Clarins ® Ltd, London, UK) – cream for reducing stretch marks. The active ingredients of this product are crowberry and Centella asiatica extracts, olive, coconut and palm oils and Siegesbeckia. Clinical trials of the product have not yet been conducted.
  • Topical tretinoin has been studied in four clinical trials. These studies showed that it was used successfully in the treatment of striae rubra and was less effective in striae alba. A 6-month randomized controlled trial with 0.1% cream was conducted in 22 patients with striae rubra. The results showed a decrease in the length and width of striae. Side effects reported included erythema or enlargement of lesions in the first 2 months. Another randomized controlled trial used a dose of 0.025% tretinoin daily for 7 months in 11 women with striae. No difference was found compared to placebo. However, this may have been influenced by the small sample size.
  • The therapeutic effect of tretinoin was also evaluated in 20 patients with striae. Tretinoin was applied at a dose of 0.1% per day for 3 months. The results obtained demonstrated a decrease in the length of striae by 20%. However, the study was conducted without controls. Another randomized, open-label, uncontrolled study compared the effectiveness of 0.05% tretinoin cream and dermabrasion in the treatment of striae rubra. Both methods were equally effective.
  • Bio-Oil ® cream is recommended by manufacturers to improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and even out skin tone. Two randomized controlled trials were conducted to evaluate the cream. However, these studies were only presented on the company's website and full data and study results are not available. One blinded, randomized controlled trial showed that 50% of patients showed improvement appearance of stretch marks after 8 weeks of using the cream. The sample size was small. The second double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled study included 38 patients of various ethnic groups, with various causes of stretch marks and in various locations. Results also showed an improvement in the appearance of stretch marks after 8 weeks of treatment with Bio-Oil ® cream.
  • Kelo-Cote ® (Sinclair Pharma PLC, London, UK) is a silicone gel that has been recommended for use in atrophic scars due to acne, chickenpox and striae. The company's website states that in clinical trials, 75% of subjects were in favor of using this cream to improve the appearance of existing stretch marks.
  • However, complete information about these trials is not available. In a double-blind, controlled study, the effects of this drug were compared with placebo using non-invasive objective measures and immunohistochemical analysis of biopsy material. Histological and clinical data showed an increase in melanin, while collagen, elastin, and vascularity decreased over the 6-week trial period. The benefit of this topical drug remains unknown, since changes in the skin may be due to the effect of massage.
  • Another product from the same company, called Kelo-Stretch™ (Sinclair Pharma PLC), contains centella asiatica extract (0.5%), sweet almond oil and shea butter. The manufacturer claims that the scientific evidence for this product was demonstrated in a study of women who used the cream twice a day. They noted a significant improvement in skin elasticity, a 10% reduction in the width of stretch marks and, in 60% of subjects, a reduction in existing stretch marks. This study has not been published.
  • Apothederm ™ (Apothederm ™, Boswell, Washington, USA) is a cream that prevents the appearance of stretch marks and reduces existing ones by strengthening the skin and increasing collagen levels. Active ingredients include natural emollients: shea butter, cocoa butter, olive oil and foam seed oil. The cream showed positive results. This study has not been published.
  • Skinception™ (Skinception™, Johnson City, Tennessee, USA) is an intensive stretch mark therapy cream containing active ingredients (Regestril, Darutoside, Pro-Col-One and Pro-Sveltyl) that promote collagen synthesis. The product claims to be clinically proven to be effective, although no information has been published.
  • Alphastria - a cream for the prevention of stretch marks, contains hyaluronic acid as an active ingredient, stimulating the activity of fibroblasts and collagen production. A randomized controlled trial showed that in the treatment group stretch marks developed in 10%, and in the placebo group in 70% of women.

Improved cell proliferation

For two of the proposed topical products, their mechanism of action for striae is based on increased cell proliferation.

  • Thalgo ® (Thalgo UK Ltd, London, UK) is a cream to prevent the formation and reduce existing stretch marks. Active ingredients: marine elastin and marine collagen, Asian centella extract, Tamanu oil, wheat germ oil. There is no clinical evidence of the effectiveness of this topical drug for the treatment or prevention of striae. However, this product contains Centella asiatica, which has been evaluated for effectiveness in previous studies.
  • Liforma® - cream for the prevention of stretch marks, contains vitamin B5 (panthenol), a stimulator of cell proliferation.

Anti-inflammatory properties

Two topical formulations use active ingredients that reduce hyperemia in the area of stretch marks due to anti-inflammatory properties.

  • SilDerm™ Stretch Mark Cream (SilDerm™ Ltd, Cheshire, UK) - contains the active ingredients Registril and Darutoside and is recommended by the manufacturer for the treatment of existing stretch marks. However, there is no description of how this product was tested and rated. Additionally, there are no published peer-reviewed studies.
  • Liforma ® - the cream also contains vitamin E and chamomile extract, which act as anti-inflammatory agents.

Rehydration

  • Palmers ® is a cream for the prevention and reduction of stretch marks by maintaining skin elasticity through its rehydration. This is achieved through cocoa butter, vitamin E, elastin and collagen. Two randomized controlled trials have been conducted that examined the effect of cocoa butter compared with placebo for the prevention of striae. Both studies found no significant differences between the experimental and control groups.

Other topical products

Various oils have been used to prevent stretch marks, some of which have been evaluated in the literature. Taavoni et al conducted a randomized controlled trial using olive oil (type of striae not specified). Overall, there were no significant differences between groups. In a non-randomized, comparative study of almond oil in the prevention of striae, significant differences in the frequency of striae were noted between groups. When using almond oil and massage, stretch marks developed in 20%, with monotherapy with almond oil - in 38.8%, in the control group - in 41.2% of subjects.

  • Trilastin-SR ® (Trilastin-SR ® , Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, USA) – the product is indicated for the prevention of stretch marks. There are no published studies available for this product.
  • RegimA ® Scar Treatment and Anti-Stretch Complex (RegimA ® , Gauteng, South Africa) is a topical product for both the treatment of skin scars and the treatment of stretch marks. There are no published studies to support the use of this product for striae.

Discussion

There are a number of topical products used therapeutically or prophylactically for striae. Several mechanisms of action have been reported (none meet level 1 evidence), which include the ability to stimulate collagen production, increase elasticity, improve cell proliferation, anti-inflammatory effects, and rehydration.

There is insufficient high-level evidence from studies reported in the literature to support the use of topical products in the prevention of striae. In addition, much of the data has limited evidence of the effectiveness of commonly available prophylactic agents.

A number of products have clinical evidence, but with insufficient published clinical trials. Available evidence in the peer-reviewed literature has demonstrated positive results (PEP-2) for some topical products such as Alphastria and Trofolastin through randomized controlled trials with large sample sizes, although the type of striae was not specified. Additionally, tretinoin has shown variable results in three studies and was effective for stretch marks rubra.

One study using Kelo-Cote ® silicone gel showed equivocal differences between placebo and treatment groups, however, the benefit of this product for stretch marks remained unknown. Two studies using cocoa butter and one study using olive oil found that there were no significant effects for stretch marks. Most topical products do not have any peer-reviewed evidence to support their use for striae. Overall, there is limited data on the effectiveness of topical therapy in the treatment of striae.

Although a number of studies have shown that some topical products for striae have positive results, it has been difficult to determine the extent to which these results were influenced by the act of massage. There is limited evidence of the beneficial effects of massage on the skin, although daily massage for patients with scars is recommended to improve the quality of the scars.

It is clear that different types of striae show varying degrees of improvement with topical treatment. Certain local treatments are intended for red or white stretch marks.

However, not all topicals are equally useful for use for both types of stretch marks. It is important to identify the side effects of these products. Patients with red stretch marks need to reduce the brightness of the erythema, while simultaneously reducing the symptoms of itching that are characteristic of the initial stage of stretch marks. Conversely, with white striae, increased pigmentation is necessary and there is no need for antipruritic therapy. Therapeutic interventions in the initial stages can minimize structural changes in the epidermis that occur later. It is important to consider the properties of the dosage form, clinical signs and symptoms, based on the type of striae and the patient's Fitzpatrick skin type. An individual approach to each specific patient is required.

A careful targeted approach and clinical assessment will allow the clinician to tailor the appropriate treatment strategy to the individual patient with striae. High-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to evaluate the effectiveness of topical products for the prevention and treatment of striae.

Striae - a cosmetic problem

In the United States, approximately 90% of pregnant women, 70% of teenage girls, and 40% of boys (especially athletes) have stretch marks, according to Medscape.com. These data can be extended to all other countries and races.

Typically, stretch marks are a cosmetic problem, but with a sudden injury or sudden overextension, first tearing, then inflammation and ulceration of the skin are possible.

Striae appear in the form of flat thinning skin of a pink hue, itching from time to time. Gradually, the stretch marks increase in length and width and become reddish-purple (striae rubra). The surface of the striae may become covered with fine wrinkles. Mature striae are white, receding, irregularly shaped stripes, parallel to the lines of skin tension along the long axis, on average several centimeters in length and 1-10 mm in width. Over time, some stretch marks may disappear or become less noticeable. The natural evolution of stretch marks is similar to the formation of scar tissue during wound healing.

During pregnancy, stretch marks usually affect the abdomen and mammary glands. The most common areas with stretch marks in adolescents are located on the outer surfaces of the thighs and lumbosacral region in boys and on the thighs, buttocks, and mammary glands in girls. Less commonly, other areas, such as the upper arms, are affected.

Striae induced by long-term use of systemic steroids are usually longer and wider than other types of stretch marks; damaged areas are also capable of expanding, involving more and more parts of the body, sometimes the face. Stretch marks may occur as a side effect of long-term use of topical corticosteroids under occlusive dressings. This kind of stretch marks occurs in places where bandages are applied and usually goes away on their own after discontinuation of local treatment.

Fighting stretch marks at home

Massage of problem areas helps to cope with stretch marks on the thighs and butt. It increases blood flow to the thighs and helps nutrients be absorbed faster. Stretch marks will decrease much faster if you combine massage with peeling, wrapping, lotions or creams.

Massage

For manual massage, various essential oils are used, and the finger movements themselves should be pinching.

You should not stretch the skin during the procedure, as people for whom it is recommended already have a tendency to over-stretch.

After finishing, a contrast shower is recommended.

Hydromassage

This includes a contrast shower at home or an underwater procedure in a specialized center. The skin softens and stretch marks decrease, elasticity returns.

Wraps

In addition to massage, you can perform a wrap procedure to reduce stretch marks on the thighs. This is a fairly effective procedure, which requires polyethylene and a special composition, which will affect the necessary areas.

Polyethylene creates a greenhouse effect on the surface of the skin, which increases the temperature. Such a high temperature helps to quickly absorb the beneficial substances contained in the special applied product. Most often, Dead Sea mud, clay, algae and chocolate are used to remove stretch marks on thighs.

Cosmetologists usually recommend the use of products containing brown algae - kelp. They contain a large amount of alginic acid and other microelements beneficial for the skin. All this allows you to make the skin on your thighs more elastic and elastic.

Baths

Taking a bath is another useful procedure for reducing stretch marks on thighs. Baths with nutrients and essential oils should be taken at least three times a week and for at least 20 minutes. Most often, products with algae, various moisturizers, essential oils of citrus fruits, geranium, nutmeg and incense are recommended for taking such baths. All this will make the skin softer and activate regeneration processes.

Scrubs

Scrubs help make the skin softer, remove dead skin cells and activate regeneration. Therefore, they are very helpful in combating stretch marks.

At home, you can use homemade products, for example, sea salt and cream or coffee grounds and olive oil. The scrub should be applied to problem areas with massaging movements, and then rinsed off the excess with warm water. Afterwards you can take a contrast shower.

So what causes stretch marks on the buttocks?

Striae, another name for stretch marks, is a visual reflection of the rupture of the layers of the epidermis that occurs inside the skin.

When stretch marks appear, they are usually red. This is influenced by the blood vessels that are located in the connective skin. Over time, the stretch marks become white or even colorless.

Is there a correct professional regimen for getting rid of stretch marks?

Marina Miusova: “At the first stage, we use injection and physiotherapeutic methods - plasma therapy, mesotherapy with peptide regulators and venotonics. The goal is to reduce inflammation in the damaged area and improve microcirculation. This helps avoid the formation of defective collagen.

At the stage of an atrophic scar, it is necessary to tighten the tissue and reduce the width of the scar. For this purpose, soft laser resurfacing, radio wave therapy (thermage, needle RF), injections of collagen, plasma fibrin, polylactic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite, Radiesse are used. If the width of the striae is 8 mm or more, thread methods to bring the edges of the defect together.

Elena Selivanova : “The course usually consists of mesotherapy (low molecular weight hyaluronic acid plus amino acids or peptides) and laser resurfacing (ablative laser or non-ablative - depends on the severity of stretch marks), and then plasma therapy. The laser is done once a month, with injections in between. It may take 5-7-10 cycles of laser and injections - it’s difficult to predict. Flabbiness and unevenness of the skin in the area of stretch marks become smaller, and they themselves become flatter.

Previously, instead of a laser, we did TCA chemical peels, but now we don’t use them, since the damage, unlike lasers, they create is strong and uncontrollable.

Retinol works well - it can be used at home, but only after pregnancy and breastfeeding are completed. Retinol can be taken at 1% from professional brands (Obagi, Rejudicare), or it can be from a pharmacy - for example, klensit, effezel, differin (the chemical is adapalene). Apply for at least 3-6 months.

You can also use dermal rollers with hyaluronic acid or growth factor serums. And reinforcement with collagen stimulants (polylactic acid, calcium hydroxyapatite) - once every 3-4 months, usually 2-3 procedures are needed.”

Tatiana Al Sabunchi : “We use hardware methods related to heating. How it works? Example: I once explained to my son what stretch marks are. She took a plastic bag, stretched it with her fingers, and let go - the bag sagged in this place. My son blew hot air from a hairdryer onto this area and the bag came together. To put it very roughly, this is how hardware methods work on the skin. Thermal methods - resurfacing and radiolifting - promote skin contraction and even out texture.

And yes, sometimes injections are needed into the area of stretch marks (this also applies to scars) - either plasma therapy or mesotherapy, this improves tissue nutrition and regeneration.”

Elena Sibrina : “I note that all these methods are used only when you are no longer pregnant or breastfeeding, and also do not have endocrine pathologies. And I’ll add that sometimes it makes sense to use photo- and bukki-therapy (exposure to Bukki’s borderline X-rays) - if we see excessive growth of blood vessels or suspect that a keloid is forming.”
