How long should a high-quality eyebrow tattoo last, and how much should you pay for it?

Beautifully designed eyebrows add success and confidence to any woman. To always be confident in their appearance, many people get eyebrow tattooing. After this procedure, thanks to the pigment, the hair color becomes what the customer wants for a long time. Due to the popularity of permanent makeup, cosmetologists constantly have to answer questions about how much eyebrow tattooing costs and how long permanent eyebrow makeup lasts. The cost of tattooing can be answered in one sentence, but the answer to the second depends on many factors.

Types of permanent makeup

Permanent makeup is a color correction method based on the introduction of pigment into the shallow layers of the skin, helping to correct facial features and imperfections.

As a result of the procedure, the client receives beautiful eyebrows, lips, and interlash area, which last from 6 to 24 months, depending on the chosen technique and the characteristics of the body. Due to the large number of different procedures offered by masters, confusion has arisen with the terms, in particular in the connection between the terms “tattoo” and “permanent makeup”. To put an end to this issue forever - tattooing and permanent makeup are one and the same thing. To confirm this statement, let’s define the term “tattoo.”

Tattooing is the process of applying a permanent, permanent design to the body by traumatizing the skin and introducing coloring pigment into its layers.

Further we will use the words tattoo and permanent makeup as synonyms, since in essence they are such.

Based on the method of introducing pigment, there are two types of tattooing:

  • hardware. It is carried out using a vibrating apparatus with a built-in electric motor and equipped with a needle;

  • manual. For the procedure, a special handle-handle is used, into the working part of which a needle or a bunch of needles is inserted, forming something like a blade. Unlike hardware permanent makeup, in manual permanent makeup the needles are activated by the hands of the master.

Both techniques are used by masters, although manual eyebrow tattooing is the first permanent makeup technique and is gradually losing popularity. The first cases of manual tattooing were recorded in Ancient China, where the procedure was performed on Chinese from poor neighborhoods. But to get the full picture, let’s look at the pros and cons of each type.

Hardware method of administration

Pros:

  • long-term result;
  • a large selection of dye application methods;
  • rapid healing process due to minimal trauma to the skin;

Minuses

  • The vibration generated by the micromotor can contribute to uneven lines. Here, of course, everything depends on the professionalism of the master and the positioning of his hand, but there is still such a risk.

Manual method of administration

Pros:

  • There is no vibration, so the line error is lower.

Minuses:

  • despite statements that microblading is not a traumatic procedure, it involves mini-incisions, and incisions mean tissue scarring;
  • After applying the pigment, the eyebrows initially seem ideal - the lines are thin and even. This occurs because the skin "shrinks" as a result of exposure to injury, and eventually relaxes and the lines can "float".

In different sources there are other classifications where permanent makeup and tattooing are different procedures or varieties of each other, but all these conclusions are initially incorrect. There are only 2 main types of permanent makeup, and they differ in the method of introducing the dye - with a device or a handpiece, and everything else is subtleties determined by each master independently and, of course, marketing.

Separately, I would like to dwell on the so-called “types” of permanent makeup, which are often classified as a separate classification. There it is found:

  • shadow shading;
  • watercolor tattoo;
  • eyebrow spraying;
  • hairy;
  • pixelated.

All of these are not types of tattooing, but methods of pigment distribution, in other words, techniques. Starting from this most familiar gradation, let us briefly explain what we are talking about:

  • shadow shading is the application of pigment in a continuous layer, which will look similar to eyebrow shadows;
  • watercolor tattooing is, in simple words, a gradient;
  • spraying of eyebrows in different versions - pixel, powder - tattooing, leaving behind small dots and pixels on the skin;
  • hair method - drawing hairs to add volume.

Let us repeat that these are not types of tattooing, but only options for pigment distribution. The most important thing is that what one artist will call “Gradient tattooing”, another may have “Soft tattooing with color transition” in the list of services. There are a great variety of ways in which paint is applied – approximately the same number as there are permanent makeup artists, and it is simply impossible to collect them into a single classification. In order not to make a mistake with the result, be sure to look at examples of the work of a particular master and find out what techniques are in his arsenal.

Anna Zubenko @pm_zubenko, permanent makeup master and TOP-master according to PROFI magazine:

How many masters there are so many different names for hardware eyebrow tattooing. For my students, and in general in my list of services, I highlight the hair technique, gradient, and also the airy eyebrow technique, but this is exclusively my classification - for other masters it may be wider and have other, completely unusual names - the flap of a butterfly’s wing, for example .

How long does permanent makeup last?

Permanent makeup, regardless of the method of introducing pigment, lasts from 7-10 months to several years.

The final “wearing” time depends on:

  • age. The younger the girl, the faster the tattoo will fade. It's all about the speed of skin regeneration - at a young age it is higher;
  • skin type On oily skin, tattooing lasts less than on dry skin;
  • lifestyle . Frequent physical activity, sweating, active sports - all this affects the rate of pigment fading;
  • immunity. The better the immunity, the faster the result will fade, since the body quickly rejects the foreign pigment from the skin.

At the first consultation, the specialist will examine the skin, collect anamnesis and be able to give a more or less specific time period.

Contraindications

Permanent makeup is a serious procedure that not everyone can perform. It is prohibited to do it when:

  • insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus;
  • hepatitis, AIDS;
  • complex somatic, mental, nervous ailments;
  • acute inflammation;
  • autoimmune diseases;
  • psoriasis;
  • diseases that lead to decreased blood clotting - leukemia, anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukemia;
  • tumors;
  • exacerbation of chronic diseases;
  • predisposition to the appearance of keloid scars;
  • pregnancy, lactation;
  • allergies;
  • conjunctivitis;
  • menses;
  • high blood pressure;
  • inflammation of the skin, acne;
  • alcoholic, drug intoxication.

How to choose a permanent makeup artist

Choosing a permanent makeup artist is a responsible matter, because you will have to wear the results of the procedure for at least several months. You can, of course, remove or cover up an unsuccessful tattoo, but it is better to go to a professional right away - this saves time, nerves and money.

Anna:

“When they ask me how to choose a permanent eyebrow makeup artist, I give 3 main criteria to focus on:

  • profile. Nowadays, everyone maintains profiles on social networks, especially craftsmen, where they share the results of their work. If you liked the photos, be sure to check the photos for uniqueness. Unfortunately, passing off someone else's work as your own is far from uncommon;
  • certificates. A good master never stops improving his skills and takes courses at least once every six months;
  • reviews. Moreover, it is advisable to study reviews not only on the master’s page, but also in other sources - for example, Yandex or Google maps.”

Let's add on our own behalf:

  • compare different works for patterns. If a master gives everyone the same eyebrows without looking at the features of the facial structure, it is better to look for another specialist;

  • find out how things are with the sanitary regime in the office - which consumables are disposable, what is used repeatedly, how disinfection and sterilization are carried out. Don’t be shy - if the master has nothing to hide, then he will calmly answer all the potential client’s questions.

A plus will be the availability of a free consultation from the chosen eyebrow artist. Firstly, there you can ask all your questions, and secondly, the specialist will tell you about the procedure, contraindications and preparation for the visit.

They also often ask which tattoo technique is suitable for a particular girl - let’s look into this question.

  • the so-called hair method of adding pigment is an option for girls with sparse, thin eyebrows. By simulating hair, eyebrows will appear wider and thicker. But you need to keep in mind that the hair technique is appropriate for thick, normal-type skin. This technique is not used on oily skin, as over time the line “blurs”;
  • If there is enough hair on the eyebrow arches, but they lack thickness or the hairs grow unevenly, you need to pay attention to “solid” application options - shadow shading, powder spraying.

But the main advice we can give is to go to a truly professional eyebrow artist, who will not just do another standard job, but will choose a method for applying pigment based on the characteristics of your appearance.

“Before” and “after” permanent makeup

Before the procedure

  • Stop drinking alcohol-containing drinks for a week. Alcohol provokes surges in blood pressure - this negatively affects both the procedure itself and the result. You also need to give up energy drinks;
  • If possible, give up aspirin and other blood thinning drugs, as well as antibiotics, for 5-7 days. Some medications can affect the survival rate of pigment;
  • the day before it is prohibited to carry out peelings and other cosmetic procedures, as well as injections;
  • It is also advisable to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun or visiting a solarium the day before.

After the procedure

  • On the first day, wipe your eyebrows with Chlorhexidine every 30-60 minutes. On the second day, it is enough to repeat the manipulation once - in the morning;
  • For dry skin, moisturize it with Vaseline or a special ointment until the film completely comes off.

Under no circumstances:

  • do not peel off the film and generally refuse other influences - scrubs, peelings;
  • do not visit baths, saunas, swimming pools and other places with high humidity;
  • avoid sunbathing for a month after the procedure;
  • If possible, stop taking vitamins and antibiotics until your eyebrows are completely healed.

Recommendations from experts

The salon will tell you how to care for your eyebrows after tattooing and what to avoid later so that it stays on your eyebrows longer:

  1. Try not to sunbathe for hours on the beach in the summer and walk less around the city when it’s hot. When exposed to direct rays, the tattoo fades.
  2. When you go to the solarium, you need to smear those areas with a cream that protects from sun rays. This is a 30 to 40 protection factor. This is the case with creams intended for children and special ones with enhanced protection.
  3. When you buy a new cream or other product, read the instructions carefully before applying it. It makes sense to read reviews on the Internet. Some creams or lotions have a whitening effect. This one doesn't suit you.
  4. After everything has healed, do not scrub or peel in that area.
  5. Try to care for it correctly and the tattoo will last longer; correction will be required no more than once every 1.5-2 years. And many people don’t go through it so often, and continue to wear old permanent makeup for 4-6 years. The main thing is to take proper care.

Q&A with expert Anna Zubenko

Why can't you do permanent makeup during pregnancy?

Anna:

“This is a personal matter for a specific master and a specific client. I don't hire pregnant girls, at least if I know about their situation. The fact is that permanent makeup, especially if it is done for the first time or after a long break, causes a lot of stress and how this will affect the course of pregnancy and the child cannot be predicted. With reservations, I also accept clients during the lactation period - the child must be at least 5 months old so that the woman’s hormonal levels and the lactation process stabilize after childbirth.”

What is the difference between a tattoo and permanent makeup - after all, the essence of the procedure is the same?

Anna:

“At first glance it may seem that these are the same thing, but upon closer examination, the main difference is revealed - the depth of pigment introduction. When tattooing, pigment is applied a maximum of 1 mm across the skin, and tattoos are “driven in” much deeper - that’s why they remain forever.”

Why can eyebrows be green, blue, or black after tattooing, although they initially looked quite decent?

Anna:

“The result, including the final eyebrow color, depends on several factors:

  • Origin of the dye – organic, non-organic or hybrid;
  • Depth of pigment introduction;
  • The professionalism of the master.

If at least one of the points “suffers”, there is a high risk of encountering eyebrows of incredible colors.”

Three main technologies

with which eyebrows are corrected:

  • hair method,
  • combined,
  • blending is soft.

The question itself, which will last longer, is not correct. One or another tattooing technology is chosen based on the effect they want to achieve. Then girls are interested in how long eyebrow tattoo lasts? You will find the answers in the article.

Those who want to significantly change the shape of their eyebrows, for example, make them wider, choose the hair method. At the same time, the hairs are carefully drawn and the result is very similar to natural eyebrows. They become thicker and more beautiful. The vast majority of girls like it. Of course, guys sometimes resort to such tattoos. These are either actors, people of creative professions who need to look bright on camera, or teenagers.

The hair method is good and appropriate if your eyebrows are naturally sparse, narrow and not the shape you want. If eyebrows are too light, we do not recommend tattooing in 2016, since bleached ones are in trend. It happens that eyebrows are somewhat asymmetrical. This is true for everyone, but for some it is not very pronounced, while for others it is obvious. Asymmetry can irritate a girl, and she uses the hair method to make them approximately the same.

Thanks to the shading, which is done softly, the eyebrows look more voluminous and fluffy. The lines here are continuous. After everything heals, it will seem that the woman used a correction pencil a little.
