The “Woman of the Year” award, held by GLAMOR magazine, is one of the most authoritative annual awards in Russia and a landmark international event celebrating achievements in culture and social life. In 2020, the traditional Glamor magazine awards underwent a slight transformation and changed its format; it was held in a limited format, without spectators.
“We abandoned the traditional voting on the site - because personal and professional heroism, work, social activities and even entertainment in this difficult time did not seem to us to be matters suitable for comparison or rating,” says Glamor editor-in-chief Ilyana Erdneeva.
The heroines of the project were women who, despite objective difficulties, injustice and the global pandemic, achieved success in social activities, business, creativity, changed the world around them, inspired, made life more harmonious, safer and filled it with faith in the future and their strength.
One of these heroines, who received a special award established together with the project partners, was the Chief Physician of the network of plastic surgery and cosmetology clinics VIP Clinic, cosmetologist-dermatologist, plastic surgeon Ekaterina Kruglik.
At the beginning of 2022, Ekaterina Kruglik, together with her husband, the head of the VIP Clinic network of plastic surgery and cosmetology clinics, Sergei Kruglik, launched a charity project, which received support.
The goal of the project was to help women who were victims of domestic violence restore their health and appearance, and regain confidence in themselves and their beauty. Ekaterina Kruglik: We once hosted the “Be Healthy” program on Kaliningrad television, where we talked about general medicine, the latest in cosmetology and plastic surgery.
Even then, women who had suffered from domestic violence came to our clinic for help. Of course, we can help patients restore their external beauty - this is a lot of work and a whole range of restoration measures. But not everyone can afford the required number of cosmetic procedures and surgical operations. I have been thinking about a charity project for a long time. Together with plastic surgeon Sergei Viktorovich Kruglik, my husband, we decided to help women who find themselves in difficult situations absolutely free of charge - this is our social responsibility. I am convinced that the law of compensation is strictly observed in the universe: you need to give. If you are successful yourself, why not lend a helping hand to those less fortunate? At the same time, you can help in different ways. The first way is to transfer your professional knowledge, actively train others, and cultivate worthy followers. The second is, to the best of our ability, to provide targeted assistance to those who need it. This especially applies to socially vulnerable groups of people.
Today we collaborate on an ongoing basis with Ksenia Bezuglova’s charitable foundation (the “Everything is Possible” foundation helps young people with disabilities and cerebral palsy), and also provide targeted help to women who have survived domestic violence.
Hitting doesn't mean loving
Domestic violence is a big social problem and a big challenge for each individual victim. We have all heard stories about how, as a result of assault, a woman received quite serious injuries that crossed out her life.
Our charity project in 2022 was implemented jointly with the federal cosmetics chain Letual. Out of almost a hundred questionnaires received, we selected two - they made a very strong impression. These women received free treatment in Moscow: at the Institute of Plastic Surgery on Olkhovka and our clinic.
— The first girl we helped as part of our project, Natalya (the names of the participants have been changed), came to us with a terrible burn: a cigarette butt was thrown at her while she was sleeping, which set her hair on fire. Hair ignites well and burns like lava. It is impossible to put them out quickly. Natalya received serious burns, which resulted not only in scarring of soft tissues, but also in softening of the frontal bone.
This is the so-called osteomalacia: the meninges are covered with a small layer of subcutaneous fat, there are no bones - there is a “hole in the forehead”. In addition, burns, overstretched fabric and premature aging due to stress.
We carried out a very complex operation and took on serious responsibility. After implantation, polishing, restoration of the skin and soft tissues, the woman managed to get rid of the visual defect. We brought the heroine to a very good condition, I know that her life has improved.
— The second girl (let’s call her Svetlana) became a victim not of physical, but of psychological violence - which is no less terrible. She was subject to psychological bullying from her beloved young man. The tyrant lover suppressed Svetlana because of her excess weight and local obesity, mocked, humiliated and insulted her. The girl suffered from chronic depression and even had thoughts of suicide.
At the Institute of Plastic Surgery and Cosmetology in Moscow, we performed several serious body contouring procedures. Sergey Kruglik completely modeled and restored Svetlana’s figure. She lost 25 kilograms and began to look at the world differently.
In both cases, the most important thing is not even that we managed to eliminate aesthetic defects, the main thing is that we managed to increase the self-esteem of our heroines, to prove that each of them is truly beautiful. And this is a big victory for us.
