Does it ever happen that you wake up in the morning and see a face that is not quite the one you would like? Basically, the appearance is spoiled by swelling and bags under the eyes. It’s good that modern means, namely eye patches, help combat these problems quickly and effectively. But which brands produce truly effective products that have earned the most positive reviews? We have already found out and compiled their rating.
The criteria by which we evaluate patches from each brand:
- Elimination of edema. After all, these are the main functions of the patches.
- Perform additional functions. It’s great if the products also help reduce wrinkles and moisturize.
- Compound. Most users prefer natural composition. And, of course, patches should not cause an allergic reaction.
- Texture. The more “convenient” it is, the higher the score.
- Smell. Should be neutral or unobtrusive, soft.
- Price. Saving is always good, but as usual we are looking for the perfect example of price-quality ratio.

Once we've profiled each of the top 10 patch makers and assigned a score, we'll compile all the data into a table. When collecting information about products, we used: sites with reviews of real customers, personal sales statistics of KrasotkaPro, open data from the Yandex search engine. Please note that several patches can be located in the same place at once - it all depends on the number of points.
Attention: since brands, as a rule, have several product lines, in our rating of the best we consider not a specific type, but all products from one manufacturer in the aggregate. And today we have 3 first places at once! Go!

How eye patches work (visual photo experiment)
So, what do we have in the morning, after 5 hours of restless sleep? The picture is, to put it mildly, depressing. A fine network of wrinkles, swelling, blueness. In general, a complete history for use...
Well, now, the magical transformation. Voila! And no photoshop!
The “before” and “after” photos, in my opinion, very eloquently demonstrate what these magic “circles” are capable of, in principle, and those with “swallow’s nests” from my review, in particular.
Small wrinkles were erased as if with an eraser. This effect does not last long, but after applying the patches, the eyes themselves and the face as a whole no longer look so tired and tortured. In general, everything that the manufacturer promises is there. Except, perhaps, for the bruises under my eyes, apparently they are of such “high quality” that they cannot be removed with any patches and only a good concealer can help.
These Korean hydrogel eyelid patches can be bought for $14.99 on iHerb and you can read other reviews of these patches there/
Five common mistakes to avoid when using patches
- Apply to uncleansed skin .
Before using any masks or patches, you should remove makeup with a special product and cleanse your skin well. Otherwise, the composition simply will not be able to penetrate through the layer of cosmetics and sebum. And in the worst case, it will contribute to clogging of pores. - Take patches with your hands .
You need to remove the patches from the jar where they are stored with a special spatula or tweezers that come with the kit. This way you will prevent bacteria and dust that inevitably live on your fingers from getting into the container. - Leave air bubbles .
Be careful and attentive when applying patches. Avoid wrinkles or air bubbles as these reduce the effectiveness of the treatment and can leave dents and creases in the thin skin under the eyes. - “Glue” close to the eye .
Leave at least 2 mm from the lower edge of the eyelid so that the solution does not get into the eyes and cause irritation and discomfort. Don’t worry that the moving part of the lower eyelid will be left unattended: the active substance is well absorbed by the skin and spreads through the vessels and capillaries. - Leave the patches on overnight .
Contrary to the desire to enhance the effect through prolonged exposure, keeping patches on the skin all night is strictly not recommended. The fact is that both the fabric and the hydrogel from which the “patches” are made release moisture and nutrients only in the first 30 minutes. Then the base dries out and the opposite effect begins: the patches take moisture from the skin, tighten and dry it out. Be sure to read the instructions that come with your patches to get the most out of them.
The effect of patch masks on the skin around the eyes
The skin in the eye area requires special careful care, as it is susceptible to faster aging. She is devoid of subcutaneous fat and suffers from many facial wrinkles. Unsightly circles and puffiness under the eyes can be eliminated with cosmetic patches in just a few minutes. The use of collagen and peptides triggers the process of rejuvenation in the skin, and unique developments regulate its absorption by dermal cells.
Hylauric acid promotes deep skin hydration. It is also included in the patches. Nutrition and restoration of the skin increases metabolism in cells, and youth returns right before our eyes. Often, eye patches look like semicircular petals that wrap around the eyes from below and completely cover puffy or wrinkled skin. On one side, such a strip has an adhesive gel layer. This side of the patch is glued to the skin under the eyes for about half an hour, then peeled off and thrown away.
Some patches provide a Botox effect, relaxing muscles, reducing the severity and depth of wrinkles, and protecting cells from free radicals. Their impregnation contains an oligopeptide component from hibiscus seeds. The Botox-like effect of the patches is both immediate and cumulative.
The composition of the gel layer usually consists of moisturizing, draining, whitening, restoring and strengthening substances, antioxidants, and elasticity stimulants. Based on their mode of action, cosmetic patches are divided into several types: cleansing, drying, moisturizing, smoothing.
Benefits of patches for bags and dark circles under the eyes
Eye patch masks have advantages over other cosmetics: they do not deprive you of freedom of action and allow you to do other things at the same time; do not require rinsing (the beneficial substance is absorbed into the skin); the result is immediate; their aesthetic appearance allows them to be used outside the usual home environment.
Hydrogel patches refresh the skin better and remove puffiness under the eyes faster. The composition of the gel impregnation varies and determines the beneficial effect of the mask. It is more active than eye cream because it starts working immediately. It is preferable to choose patches whose impregnation contains many peptides, various moisturizing and anti-aging substances.
Morning or evening: when is it better to use patches?
Most patches should be applied in the morning for the effect to be visible all day. This convenient product allows you to remove traces of a night's sleep, tone your skin and give your face a healthy, rested look. Place the patches under your eyes immediately after washing your face and go about your usual activities: cook breakfast, do exercises, get ready for work. Just 20–30 minutes and you will see the result. It is illogical to refresh your skin before going to bed: in the morning the puffiness will still return, traces from the pillow will be visible, and there will be no trace of a fresh appearance.
However, as with everything, there are exceptions. For example, some anti-aging patches are recommended to be applied before bed. As a rule, they have a fabric base. It is also better not to overuse moisturizing patches in the morning: they can cause swelling.
Swelling forms
In some cases, patches do not relieve swelling, as manufacturers say, but, on the contrary, strengthen it, as I was able to verify from my own experience. Patches do retain moisture, but this is a temporary effect.
Since I often experience swelling, this product is not suitable for me, as the swelling becomes even greater, especially when I use the patches in the evening. If you don’t have such a problem, then they can give a good effect, but only if they are used correctly.
What are eye patches
An alternative name for this product is “plasters.” It consists of small pieces of fabric that can be completely flat or more like pads due to their volume. The word "patch" was taken from the English language, where it means "patch". According to cosmetic companies, the patches they produce work in a similar way - they eliminate blemishes on the skin in the form of dark circles, swelling, etc. They can be either disposable or reusable, which is determined by the composition and material.
How to replace eye patches at home
After familiarizing yourself with the principle of action and the main active substances, you can make patches yourself. Drinks, vegetables and even simple teaspoons will be used. Here are some effective home patch options:
- Used tea bags.
Apply them to your eyes for 15–20 minutes. Tea helps relieve puffiness and dark circles. - Coffee.
Cotton pads soaked in cold drink will help quickly remove puffiness and reduce bruises under the eyes. It is important to use only natural coffee! Soluble is not suitable for cosmetic purposes. - Fresh cucumber slices.
Classics of the genre - cool, refresh, moisturize. - Chilled cotton pads.
They can be soaked in cream for the skin around the eyes, a decoction of chamomile or oak bark, or even plain clean water. It all depends on the desired effect. - Milk.
Cold cotton pads soaked in milk will well nourish dry sensitive skin with moisture. - Spoons.
A simple and effective way to relieve swelling. Place two spoons in the freezer for 15 minutes, then wrap in a thin cloth and apply to your eyes. A couple of minutes - and the swelling was gone.
Greenhouse effect
While using this product, I noticed that the skin does not breathe under the hydrogel and cellulose coating of the patch. However, this rule does not apply to all patches. If they are fabric, then in addition to useful components, the composition includes only water and special chemical thickeners. They allow air to pass through well and the greenhouse effect is usually not observed.

If the product is made of cellulose, then after about 15-20 minutes moisture accumulates under the patch even in the absence of heating.
How to use eye patches
The principle of working with this product depends on its composition and the task set by the manufacturer and/or consumer. Keep in mind that each type of product has its own characteristics of use: for example, some Korean gel pads are immersed in warm water for half a minute before application. An important nuance - even for the purpose of constant skin care, the use of patches is carried out up to 2 times a week, the course lasts a month. The classic purpose of this product is when you urgently need to regain your beauty and healthy appearance.
In general terms, the application of eyelid pads is as follows:
- Remove your makeup. Use foam to remove any remaining residue from the skin. If the procedure is in the morning, perform a standard wash.
- Take 1 pad from the jar and carefully attach it to the lower eyelid so that it completely follows the line of the eyelash row. Repeat for the other eye.
- After the time specified in the instructions has passed (about 20 minutes), remove the patches, pulling them towards the temples. Recycle if they are disposable.
- There is no need to wash your face, but you can massage the remaining product into the skin with your fingertips. When carrying out the procedure in the evening, you can additionally apply cream.
