Another exotic story involves the so-called “blood diamonds,” allegedly received by Campbell as a gift from the Liberian dictator Charles Taylor. They met in 1997 at a reception organized by Nelson Mandela. According to Campbell herself, at night someone knocked on the door of her hotel room and handed her a bag. And it seems that Taylor mined these stones in Sierra Leone, sold them, bought weapons with this money and sponsored the civil war (all this is described in detail in the film “Blood Diamond” with Leonardo DiCaprio).
