Marilyn Monroe before and after plastic surgery.
An unforgettable girl, the dream of men of many generations. There are many rumors around Merlin’s personality, and so many years after her death, new guesses are emerging. In this case, everything is complicated: there is no way to interview doctors, relatives, and, in the end, ask the diva herself. What operations Monroe performed is an unsolved mystery. But there is one very interesting and indisputable evidence of the presence of surgical intervention.
There are real medical records of Marilyn's attending physician, Michael Gurdin.
Carier start
Norma Jean Baker-Mortenson - that was the real name of the future great actress, was born on June 1, 1926 in Los Angeles (USA). The girl's childhood and adolescence were very difficult - her mother's madness, changes in several foster families, ridicule at school - all this gave rise to complexes in Norma Jean that accompanied her throughout her life. The future Marilyn Monroe before plastic surgery - the photo is presented below.
From the age of 19, Norma Jeane worked as a pin-up model, posing for calendars, men's magazines and postcards. During this period, she believed in herself and became less critical of her appearance. However, after three years of modeling, in 1948, Norma Jeane signed her acting contract with a Hollywood studio.
Biography facts
- Marilyn Monroe's real name is Norma Jeane.
- The girl's childhood was not easy.
Merlin was born into a very poor family, her mother suffered from a mental disorder, and her father left the family long ago. While Merlin was a child, her mother had a new admirer, who came to live with them, he often got drunk and pestered the girl. The mother saw this but did nothing. She was so afraid of losing her new husband.
- The girl could not withstand the constant mental stress and dropped out of school. She suddenly got married and got a job.
- The photo that brought her calling was taken by a staff photographer at the factory, and this is how the future star was noticed by the directors of large modeling agencies.
- Critics believe that Merlin received roles in cult films not thanks to her charisma, but with the help of her appearance and candid photos.
- In 1946 she became Marilyn Monroe, leaving the name Norma Jeane in the distant past.
Modern divas silently envy Merlin: she had perfect breasts, thin and long legs, plump lips and dazzling eyes. Modern girls spend incredible amounts of money to become at least a little closer to ideal.
Doctors' documents
Everyone knows that when she started working in films, the girl changed her name and hair color, turning from Norma Jean Baker with long brown curls to Marilyn Monroe with short curly platinum-colored curls. However, many, comparing photographs of the actress from different years, noticed other changes in appearance. But until 2013, all talk about plastic surgery remained nothing more than rumors.
But then, in November 2013, at the Julien's auction, X-rays of the actress were sold, which showed obvious differences, and records of plastic surgeon Michael Gurdin, who, as it turned out, worked with the actress. The photo below shows one of Dr. Gurdin's medical documents confirming the operation of Marilyn Miller (the actress's surname from her third husband).

The secret of a smile
Before filming the 1948 musical Chorus Girls, which became the first film in the actress's career, a record was made about her, describing her height, weight, eye color, and so on. About the actress’s teeth it was said: “Ideal in terms of whiteness of color and shape, but the bite needs to be corrected.”
Fred Karger, a vocal coach at the Columbia Pictures studio, with whom Monroe was in a relationship at that time, paid for her to have her bite corrected by an orthodontist, as well as to correct the shape of her front teeth (they stuck out slightly forward, as they were very large), from a Hollywood doctor Walter Taylor Cosmetic Surgery. An X-ray of Marilyn Monroe's teeth before and after surgery is presented below.
You can also notice the differences in the photographs of the actress presented below: the first photo was taken during her work as a model, the second - during her first acting work.
Classic Marilyn Monroe nose
In the early 50s, Marilyn was in a romantic relationship with major Hollywood authority Johnny Hyde. When the Columbia Pictures studio decided not to renew the contract with the aspiring actress, she was in despair, considering her appearance to be to blame. The particular object of her anger was her nose—long and round. “It’s not a nose, it’s a potato disaster!” — the actress endlessly exclaimed, looking in the mirror.
Johnny Hyde, who tried to please his young protégé in everything, paid for Marilyn Monroe’s first plastic surgery with a surgeon whose name is unknown today, and the actress’s nose acquired a more neat shape.
Marilyn had revision rhinoplasty performed by Michael Gurdin in 1958. For that time, the work could be called jewelry - the actress’s nose looked perfect, and it was impossible to notice a single trace of the operation. In modern plastic surgery, this form is called the “Classic Marilyn Monroe nose.” In the photo below you can trace the “evolution” of the actress’s nose.
Chin shape
Through the efforts of Johnny Hyde, around the same time, Marilyn’s chin was also changed. Early photos show that the actress’s chin is wide, with a barely noticeable dimple. During the operation, Marilyn Monroe was implanted with a sea sponge implant, softening the shape of her chin and giving it a graceful crescent shape. Due to this, the actress’s face visually lengthened.
Having consulted Michael Gourdine about rhinoplasty in 1958, the actress also consulted him about a “chin deformity.” Marilyn thought that this was due to her recent fall during filming - she hit her face and was worried about the consequences of her operations. But it turned out that eight years later the implant had almost completely dissolved.
Despite rumors, Marilyn Monroe did not repeat such plastic surgeries, and her chin visually changed due to the fact that the actress was losing weight and gaining weight. They said that in the last years of her life, Marilyn had made a pronounced dimple on her chin through surgery, but in fact she lost a lot of weight, causing the natural dimple to simply protrude outward. The photo below shows plastic surgery of Marilyn Monroe before and after changes to her chin, as well as a photo after the dissolution of the implant.
Results
Monroe was perfect on her own, but she never neglected training. The actress worked out with dumbbells every day.
Marilyn Monroe always said, “I want to always strive for perfection.” Without mammoplasty, contour plastic surgery of the face and lips, the girl looked flawless. She was crazy about her curves and always kept her skin in perfect condition.
Women of that time went crazy about the cult of tanning. Merlin, on the other hand, resorted to all sorts of procedures to keep her skin marble white. She warned that tanning is very harmful to the body as a whole and also dries out the skin, predicting it to premature aging.
Breast
There are no documents indicating that Marilyn Monroe had breast augmentation surgery. One of the famous plastic surgeons in Hollywood, Norman Leaf, claims that Michael Gourdine told him about the operation on the actress's breasts, which she had done in 1950 - at the same time when she changed her chin and nose. There are no such records in Gourdin’s own documents, which means that the reliability of such information remains unreliable and was provided solely on the words of Norman Leaf.
The actress's breast size has varied throughout her career, again due to changes in weight. Even during her modeling period, Marilyn’s breasts sometimes looked very large, sometimes very small, but at that time she had nowhere to get money for such an operation. And it’s even more difficult to believe that by the early 60s, Marilyn Monroe’s plastic surgery could have been aimed at breast reduction.
Such a rumor circulated during the actress’s lifetime: it was as if she decided to go into serious cinema, and for this purpose she reduced her bust size - in fact, the actress simply lost weight due to prolonged depression.
Marlene Dietrich
One of the most beautiful and sexy actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood also resorted to correction of her appearance - circular plastic surgery helped her maintain a clear oval face. And, according to the expert, it would not have been possible without removing Bisha’s lumps and some molars (previously, this method of correcting cheekbones was used quite widely).
As the specialist notes, in all surviving photographs of Marlene the light is very well exposed, which emphasizes the strengths of the actress’s appearance. In addition, she used cosmetics to place a strong emphasis on her eyebrows, which visually “raised” them.
“There were rumors in the film community that Dietrich “glued up” the skin of his face with flesh-colored patches, creating, at an already advanced age, an oval face that was completely impossible for his age. However, I believe that Marlene actually turned to star Hollywood surgeons for circular facial plastic surgery: the oval even in the film “Stage Fright,” where she played at the age of 49, corresponds to the oval of a 25-year-old girl,” says expert Anton Zakharov.
Later, Marlene, playing in films, often covered her neck and earlobes with jewelry and clothing and acted with a veil over her face. This “technique” was later borrowed by Lyubov Orlova.
Other operations
Marilyn Monroe did not only undergo plastic surgery. In April 1961, the actress underwent surgery to remove her gallbladder. After this, Marilyn was left with a large scar on her stomach, which she preferred to hide.
But in a photo shoot arranged by Bert Stern in 1962 (just six weeks before the actress's death), she went naked without hiding the scar. As if sensing that the photo shoot would be her last, Marilyn decided to show herself absolutely naturally, without hiding a single feature of her body.
Makeup secrets
You can often hear that Marilyn Monroe's plastic surgeries include the practice of regular lip augmentation. This is absolutely untrue, since at that time such operations were not yet practiced, and from early photos of the actress you can see that the size of her lips remained the same throughout her life.
Such a rumor could have arisen due to the skillful use of various tricks in the field of makeup - even while working as a model, when Marilyn had to apply makeup without the help of professionals, she successfully mixed several shades of lipstick, covering her lips with a thin layer of Vaseline, which visually enlarged her lips - this technique she used it all my life.
Also, Marilyn Monroe was one of the first celebrities who actively used facial contouring - the actress took up to two hours to do her own makeup, as it included several layers of Vaseline and powder, after which Marilyn literally “painted” a new face for herself, improving her shape nose, cheekbones and chin.
