In the face, as in a mirror, not only the soul is reflected, but also the number of years lived: over the years, the skin loses elasticity and freshness, the outlines become blurred, more wrinkles and folds appear... We are working on how to restore the contours of the forehead, cheekbones and chin, and make the line smoother neck, restore radiant youth to the skin, carefully preserving the natural beauty of the face - the best plastic surgeons in the world work.

What is Mendelssohn lifting

The Mendelssohn lift is a modern plastic surgery aimed at restoring the youthful contours of the face and neck. Another name for the procedure is spacelifting, registered as a trademark. This is an advanced and improved version of SMAS-plasty, which is strikingly different from other operations in the very “philosophy of impact on tissue” and allows you to achieve a unique rejuvenation effect for 10–15 years.

The technique was developed by Professor Brian Mendelson, a world-famous Australian scientist. Once a year, he recruits for training a small group of leading plastic surgeons who can adopt his technique and approach to facial rejuvenation. The technique is one of the most complex plastic surgeries, since it requires the surgeon to have a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy, an experienced hand and a subtle artistic taste. The RAMI clinic in St. Petersburg is one of the few in Russia that offers its patients the famous operation.

Advantages of surgery at the RAMI clinic

Providing a high level of professional skill and equipping the operating room with expert equipment from world brands, the clinic has created optimal conditions for performing operations with maximum efficiency, exceeding most known techniques. Advantages of the Mendelssohn lift over other facial surgeries:

  • low invasiveness of the intervention;
  • maintaining the naturalness of the face;
  • long duration of effect;
  • versatility - the operation is performed for varying degrees and nature of age-related changes.

Doctor's opinion

Using special thin layers of skin, the surgeon works almost bloodlessly in the depths of the face - restores ligaments, returns tissues to their “young” position and securely fastens them.
At the same time, he sees nerves and blood vessels and carefully protects them from injury. In addition, there is no need for unnecessary detachment of the skin - only unnecessary fragments are removed. This greatly reduces post-operative swelling and bruising. Tarasenko Vasily Sergeevich, plastic surgeon, candidate of medical sciences, student of Professor Mendelson.

Indications

Mendelssohn lifting is the optimal solution in the presence of such age-related changes in the lower and middle thirds of the face and neck area:

  • stretching and the appearance of excess skin and soft tissue in the cheeks and neck;
  • increasing severity of nasolabial folds;
  • the appearance of “puppet wrinkles”, jowls;
  • changes in the contours of the neck - sagging tissue under the chin, the appearance of fat accumulations or skin folds;
  • congenital or age-related disorders of facial symmetry.

Who is this genius?

The surgical technique, which has become an alternative to the classic circular facelift, is the brainchild of Australian plastic surgeon Brian Mendelson. He believes that we look older not so much because of wrinkles, but because of the age-related loss of elasticity of the skin and the structures located under it. The swollen oval of the face reveals years more than wrinkles. Mendelssohn introduced the concept of physiological space - the same “space” that gave technology its name. The spaces in the facial structure (in the area of the cheekbones, cheeks, chin) allow muscles, ligaments and skin to move freely depending on our facial movements. But over time, the tissues sag and lose their elasticity. The result is an uneven and unaesthetic facial contour. Microsurgical pinpoint work in the area of these spaces without affecting other tissues makes it possible to restore youth.

Operation technique

The operation is performed under general anesthesia, which is specially adapted for this type of intervention: the depth of anesthesia is constantly monitored by the anesthesiologist and maintained at an optimal level with minimal stress on the body. This allows you to safely perform a significant number of operations in one step with a comfortable and quick awakening.

In some cases, if there are contraindications to general anesthesia, the Mendelssohn lift is performed under local anesthesia.

Preparatory activities

In order for the operation to be as effective and safe as possible, you should properly prepare for it.
First of all, you need to visit a therapist and make sure there are no contraindications. It is also important to do an ECG and undergo laboratory tests, a list of which will be provided by the plastic surgeon. Before surgery, you need to stop taking blood thinning medications and hormonal drugs. You should also stop smoking and drinking alcohol.

The dinner the day before should be light; on the day of the operation, eating is prohibited - this is necessary so that the patient can more easily tolerate the effects of painkillers, since the operation is performed under general anesthesia.

How to choose the appropriate tightening technique?

In 90% of cases, the surgeon “sells” what he knows how to do, and always finds thousands of competent arguments in his favor:

  • He can only do SMAS lifting, he says that Mendelssohn lifting is ineffective;
  • He can only do the MACS lift; he says that the Mendelssohn lift is too traumatic and dangerous (for an experienced surgeon this is not true);
  • He only knows how to do blepharoplasty, he says that blepharoplasty is enough for the patient, everything else will lead to the effect of an “operated face.”
  • He only knows how to enlarge his breasts, he says that his face is fine, but his breasts are too small :)

What algorithm for choosing a technique can be developed:

  1. Emerging jowls - MACS-lift or thread lifting;
  2. Beginning or medium jowls, good cervical-chin angle - Mendelssohn lifting;
  3. Obvious jowls, flabby neck - SMAS lifting.

Rehabilitation program

The first day after the operation, the patient remains under medical supervision in the clinic, where all conditions have been created for the comfort and safety of the postoperative period. The very next day you can go home, having received detailed instructions and recommendations. On the second or third day, you can wash your hair and tidy up your hair, so that you can come to the clinic for an examination on the fourth day The next examination, during which the sutures are usually removed, occurs on days 8–10. This is followed by follow-up examinations at 1, 3, 6 and 12 months.

In general, rehabilitation is easier and faster than with a circumferential lift and other facial surgeries. In this case, there is clearly less bruising and swelling, in addition, the intervention is not accompanied by hair loss.

Since the process of ptosis is significantly inhibited with maximum tissue fixation, the patient, as a rule, does not come for repeat surgery after 7–10 years, as is often the case with other interventions. For further correction of appearance after Mendelssohn lifting, regular visits to a cosmetologist are sufficient.
