Hyperhidrosis is a pathological condition that is characterized by excessive function of the sweat glands of some areas of the body or its entire surface.

The areas most susceptible to hyperhidrosis include the armpits, palms, feet, face, and groin area. Excessive sweating of the armpits, face, feet and palms causes great inconvenience to people and interferes with a full life. Fortunately, hyperhidrosis can be effectively treated at Dr. Voight's Clinic.

Our clinic uses an innovative method of treating excessive sweating - this is treatment through the injection of Botox. This method has been used in our country quite recently, although throughout the world it is already a familiar and proven method of treating hyperhidrosis and, perhaps, the most effective. Treatment of sweating with Botox is incomparable in effectiveness to any other procedures for treating this problem (use of antiperspirants, electrophoresis, surgical method).

What is Botox and how does it work?

Botox is a drug that contains botulinum toxin, a substance that, in microdoses, blocks nerve impulses emanating from nerve endings. As you know, Botox is widely used in cosmetology to eliminate facial wrinkles.

In this case, botulinum toxin blocks sympathetic nerve endings that transmit impulses from the thermoregulation center to the sweat glands. After Botox injections, excessive sweating no longer bothers the patient; anhidrosis occurs - a complete absence of sweating or its significant suppression.

Xeomin

The second generation drug based on botulinum toxin A. contains human whey protein (albumin) and sucrose as additional components. When introduced into the body, it suppresses the production of acetylcholine. This active substance affects the sympathetic nervous system, which is also responsible for sweating.

Available in powder form for preparing a solution. Packaged in bottles of 50 and 100 units. The effect begins after 4-7 days and lasts for 2-4 months.

What preparation is needed for the procedure?

The day before the procedure, the patient is advised to refrain from vigorous physical exercise. The consumption of alcoholic beverages should be avoided.

When treating underarm sweating, it is recommended to shave your hair a few days before the Botox procedure, as irritation after shaving may be a contraindication to the procedure.

Before treating foot hyperhidrosis, it is advisable to perform a pedicure to reduce the stratum corneum of the skin and facilitate the administration of the drug.

No special preparation is required before treating sweaty palms.

Iodine-starch test.

The Minor test (iodine-starch test) is based on the color reaction of the interaction of iodine with starch under the influence of moisture. In hyperhidrosis, this catalyst is sweat coming to the surface of the body.

Materials required for testing:

  • potato starch;
  • alcohol iodine solution (5%), or Lugol's solution;
  • antiseptic drug;
  • marker.

The patient is placed on the couch (if sweating of the palms is detected, the test is performed while sitting). Hands are placed behind the head. The intended injection areas are thoroughly dried with paper napkins. The area is treated with a product containing iodine. The product applied to the skin must dry completely. Then this area is powdered with starch using a brush.

The sweat that appears triggers a reaction and the skin turns dark purple. The boundaries of the zone of greatest sweating are outlined with a marker. The remains of the iodine-starch mixture are removed with an antiseptic.

How is the treatment for hyperhidrosis performed?

At Dr. Voight's Clinic, hyperhidrosis treatment with Botox is performed by a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist.

The whole procedure consists of several stages.

First of all, the doctor determines the areas of hyperhidrosis. To determine them as accurately as possible, it may be necessary to conduct a special Minor test. The area of the armpits, feet and (or) palms is treated with an iodine solution, then powdered with starch. Iodine and starch react with sweat to turn brown iodine purple. Based on the intensity of the coloring, the doctor determines the most accurate areas for Botox injection; they are specially marked, and the individual dose of the drug is also determined.

Then the Botox injection area is treated with the disinfectant chlorhexidine and Botox is injected into the skin at the designated points with special very thin needles into the thickness of the skin to a depth of 2-3 mm. At the end of Botox administration, the injection sites are re-treated with a disinfectant and cooled to reduce swelling and the appearance of bruises. The hyperhidrosis treatment procedure takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on the number of injections.

Treatment of excessive sweating

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating

, interfering with the patient’s daily activities. This unpleasant condition, which limits everyday life, social, professional activity, personal and intimate life, is a socially significant medical problem. Severe forms of hyperhidrosis affect from 1 to 5% of the population, most of whom are young people of working age. According to statistics, 71% of them feel self-doubt; 49% feel unhappy or depressed; 30% of daily activities bring significant inconvenience; 31% feel moderate restrictions in their sexual life; 25% avoid communication with loved ones; 81% feel awkward when communicating with strangers.

Such ordinary elements of communication as handshakes, touches, hugs create inconvenience. Sweat stains on clothes and an unpleasant odor cause a feeling of embarrassment and even humiliation. Hyperhidrosis of the palms makes it difficult to hold tools, makes drawing and writing difficult, and by the end of the work the paper becomes soaked with sweat. Professional activities related to papers, metals or electrical equipment are not available to patients with palmar hyperhidrosis. . It is important to understand that hyperhidrosis greatly impairs the quality of life.

Modern medicine has various methods for correcting excessive sweating. The simplest of them is the local use of antiperspirants, deodorants, local astringents, physiotherapeutic treatment (iontophoresis), and drug therapy. But conservative methods of treating hyperhidrosis are ineffective: the therapeutic effect is short-lived, contact dermatitis and side effects such as dry mouth and increased heart rate are possible.

In the surgical treatment of hyperhidrosis, the glandular tissue that produces sweat is excised. Complications such as scarring, secondary infection, bleeding, compensatory sweating in other parts of the body, and long-lasting neuralgia are possible. A modern and reliable alternative to surgical intervention is laser destruction of the sweat glands, which is very successful at SM-Clinic.

A fundamentally new approach to the treatment of hyperhidrosis became possible after the use of botulinum toxins - Botox, Xeomin, Dysport. Intradermal injections of botulinum toxin are safe and well tolerated and provide a long-lasting, although reversible, reduction in sweat production. An important feature of the method is the absence of compensatory sweating in other areas of the body. The effectiveness of botulinum toxin in the treatment of hyperhidrosis has been confirmed by numerous studies: 98% of patients stated that they would recommend this treatment method to their friends.

Botulinum toxin type A injections are a safe, well-tolerated, and highly effective treatment for hyperhidrosis of the axillae, palms, and soles.

Why do patients choose SM-cosmetology?

  • individual approach and high standards of service provision
  • advanced technologies and the latest cosmetology equipment
  • all procedures are performed exclusively by doctors, whose professionalism is confirmed by regular cycles of training and advanced training
  • maximum possible use of disposable materials
  • The clinic is open daily, including holidays and weekends

Doctors at the SM-Cosmetology clinic have extensive experience in treating excessive sweating with Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin.
The duration of the procedure is about an hour. In order to minimize discomfort, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia, and in the treatment of palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis, injection anesthesia is performed. The effect occurs within a week and is most pronounced after 2-3 weeks. Sweating decreases without a compensatory increase in sweat production in other areas of the body. Side effects include the possibility of pinpoint hematomas at injection sites. Sometimes there is slight muscle weakness - weakening of the grip strength of the fingers, difficulty in performing small movements, which disappears after 5-14 days. The effect of botulinum therapy lasts from 6 to 12 months, depending on the location of hyperhidrosis and individual characteristics. The main disadvantage of this method is its cost. However, this is the safest, well-tolerated and highly effective method of treating hyperhidrosis of the armpits, palms and soles, which radically changes the quality of life, improving the psycho-emotional state, maximizing the capabilities of patients in all areas of life.

Contraindications for treating hyperhidrosis with Botox

Despite the harmlessness of the procedure, there are contraindications to the administration of Botox. So, Botox is not recommended for:

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • allergic reactions to the components of the drug or to drugs containing protein;
  • acute inflammatory disease accompanied by fever;
  • local rashes and irritations of various etiologies at the sites of intended injections;
  • the patient’s tendency to form keloid scars;
  • epilepsy and other neuropsychiatric diseases.

Carrying out the procedure

Before Botox injections for sweating, it is necessary to conduct a Minor test. It will allow you to determine the dosage of the drug and also indicate points for injections. The points can be marked with brilliant green or other special paints. solutions. Very thin needles are used for the procedure. This procedure is done no more often than once every 6 months. If injections are given in different places, then they can be given simultaneously.

The skin must be disinfected, and an anesthetic cream can be applied (if the patient has a low pain threshold). After applying the anesthetic, you need to wait a few minutes for the alcohol to evaporate. At the end of the procedure, treatment with disinfectants is again required. The length of the procedure depends on the surface where it is performed. On average it takes up to 1 hour. The process is identical in all parts of the body.

What are the causes of hyperhidrosis?

Doctors divide hyperhidrosis into local and general. With local (local) hyperhidrosis, increased sweating is observed only in certain areas: increased sweating of the armpits, palms and feet usually occurs in a stuffy room, during physical activity, in stressful situations or after eating. But unlike normal sweating, with hyperhidrosis the sweating is excessive and causes discomfort to the person. Local hyperhidrosis is an independent disease.

General hyperhidrosis is a condition that develops against the background of another disease. As a rule, general hyperhidrosis is observed when:

  • endocrine disorders (diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, in women during menopause and after childbirth);
  • intoxication due to infectious diseases and alcohol poisoning:
  • oncological diseases;
  • diseases of the cardiovascular system;
