Botulinum toxin - injection of youth

Botox is an injection that an experienced cosmetologist injects directly under the patient’s skin. Immediately after administration, the drug creates a strong connection with the nerves of the facial muscles. Botox molecules block the production of acetylcholine, which, in turn, stops transmitting signals to the brain about contraction of facial muscles during facial expressions. Therefore, the muscles relax and due to this, all wrinkles are smoothed out. The effect lasts from 4 to 6 months, after which the nerve begins to create new endings and the signal appears again. Therefore, Botox injections should be performed regularly.

Injection cosmetology has pushed plastic surgery into the background. So, in order to prolong youth and allow the skin to remain just as fresh, healthy, without wrinkles, just a few beauty injections are enough, for example, Dysport injections.

This is a drug based on botulinum toxin. It is used to eliminate facial wrinkles, as well as for hyperhidrosis - increased sweating of the armpits, arms, and legs.

How does Dysport work?

The drug blocks the motor impulse from nerves to muscles. As a result, those muscles that contribute to the appearance of facial wrinkles are compressed. Don’t worry that after the injection your whole face will become motionless: the procedure involves local injection of Dysport, so everything will be fine with facial expressions.

  • Where can you inject Dysport:
  • around eyes;
  • forehead;
  • nose bridge area;
  • armpits (with hyperhidrosis).
  • What should you not do before the procedure?
  1. You should not take antibiotics 10 days before the procedure.
  2. For 2-3 days you need to bend over as little as possible. Any physical activity will lead to increased stimulation of blood flow to the face. And, if the day before you did sports or cleaning, and then went for Dysport, the drug may be distributed unevenly.
  3. For 2 nights it is better to sleep on a high pillow.
  4. For 3 days you should give up alcohol, coffee and smoking. They also affect blood microcirculation, so it’s better not to take risks. Otherwise, the drug, as with physical activity, may be distributed unevenly.

When does the effect of Dysport injections occur?

You will notice the first effect 2-5 days after the procedure. And the final one is only after 12-14 days.

Indications

Dysport injections can be given to those who:

  • there are wrinkles and creases in the forehead;
  • folds on the bridge of the nose and between the eyebrows;
  • wrinkles in the corners of the eyes;
  • facial wrinkles;
  • any imperfections in the décolleté area;
  • asymmetry of eyebrows and cheekbones is observed;
  • hyperhidrosis.

Contraindications

They are divided into relative and absolute.

The first include:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding;
  • chronic diseases in the acute stage;
  • the affected area of the skin where the drug must be injected.

In the list of absolute contraindications:

  • individual intolerance to the components of the drug;
  • pathologies of the cardiovascular system;
  • respiratory failure;
  • autoimmune neuromuscular diseases;
  • problems with swallowing function;
  • diseases of the endocrine system.

How is the injection procedure performed?

Before starting the procedure, you should consult your doctor to find out if you have any health-related contraindications.

The whole procedure is divided into the following stages:

The cosmetologist marks places on the skin for further administration of Dysport. Disinfects the patient's skin.

The administration is carried out using a thin needle and only with a pre-calculated dosage.

IMPORTANT! How many dysport units are needed for different zones:

  • horizontal forehead folds: 40-60 units;
  • eyebrow fold: 40-80 units;
  • "crow's feet": up to 40 units;
  • lifting the corners of the mouth: up to 30 units;
  • upper lip wrinkles: up to 20 units;

The procedure does not require anesthesia; specialists only use a cold compress.

At the end, this compress is removed, and the patient can go home.

1 session takes from 30 to 60 minutes. Repeated injections can be done no earlier than after 3-4 months.

How should you behave after the introduction of Dysport?

The doctor will announce all recommendations immediately after the procedure.

Here are some of them:

  1. It is important to be in an upright position for 3-4 hours.
  2. IT IS PROHIBITED to massage or touch the area where the drug was injected.
  3. The injection site can be cooled with ice for 15-20 minutes.
  4. Move the muscles in the area where the drug was injected immediately after the procedure for 30 minutes.
  5. Do not visit baths and saunas for 2 weeks.
  • Can I drink alcohol after Dysport?

No, this is prohibited for 2 weeks. The fact is that any alcoholic drink “turns off” the effect of the drug, so if you perform the procedure and then decide to drink, you can assume that everything was in vain.

How is Dysport different from Botox?

Both drugs contain botulinum toxin; it turns out that Dysport and Botox are identical, but there are still differences.

The manufacturer of Botox is America, and Dysport is made in France.

Dysport has a smaller molecular weight than Botox.

Each drug contains a different concentration of botulinum toxin. For example, there is 2.5 times less of it in Dysport than in Botox. Again, Botox is more expensive than Dysport, but less of the former is needed to carry out a particular procedure.

When should you start getting beauty injections?

It all depends on age, and everyone has their own characteristics.

I would divide it into 3 categories:

  • 20-25 years. At this age, the skin does not need injections, but only high-quality cleansing and moisturizing. There may be problems with acne, but in order to get rid of them, there are different solutions, but not injections.
  • 25-30 years old. You can now begin to prevent aging, which is always associated with a lack of hyaluronic acid. With age, the skin becomes less elastic, the oval of the face may even “swim”, and the level of elasticity decreases. Therefore, injection cosmetology will come to the rescue.
  • 35+ years. Skin tone decreases and the skin gradually loses elasticity. More and more wrinkles appear at the corners of the eyes. And you can fill them with Dysport or Botox.
  • Is it possible to get beauty injections in the summer?

Many people think that it is not, but in fact it is possible. In the summer, injections with botulinum toxin help prevent squinting from the bright sun, which usually causes wrinkles to appear in different areas of the face.

By the way, if you get beauty injections at the beginning of summer, you can forget about excessive sweating throughout the hot season and feel comfortable.

How many units of Botox should you use on your face?

Before talking about a certain number of units of a substance for one or another part of the face, it is worth knowing that only an experienced cosmetologist will be able to establish the exact number of units based on the condition of the patient’s facial skin. Of course, there is an average of the units used, but still only a doctor can do everything at the highest professional level.

If less Botox is used, the effect will be very insignificant. If you inject more units of the substance, your face will look like a mask. Therefore, trust your face exclusively to professionals in their field.

How is the procedure done?

First, the doctor determines the areas where Dysport will be injected. If you need to remove wrinkles, the doctor will ask you to tense the desired muscle (squint your eyes, wrinkle your forehead). If the drug is needed to treat excessive sweating, then the procedure itself is preceded by a test with iodine and starch. This determines the area of greatest activity of the sweat glands.

The selected zones are marked with dots - injections will be made there. The injections are made with the thinnest needles, so they are usually easily tolerated by patients. But if necessary and at the request of patients, injection sites can be treated with anesthetic cream.

Conditions for storing Dysport in pharmacies and clinics

In medical institutions, as a rule, ready-made solutions are used on the same day. If the solution is prepared at the end of the working day, then it can be used the next day, provided that all the rules for preparing the solution are followed.

The finished drug can only be stored in a bottle closed with a plastic cap. The solution that is drawn into the syringe is not left for storage.

Long-term storage of the drug is carried out only in original packaging at a temperature of +2 to +8 degrees without access to light. Vials of ready-to-use solution are stored for no more than 10 hours.

Violation of storage rules can lead not only to the loss of the medicinal properties of the drug, but also to poisoning of the body with the breakdown products of high-molecular compounds.

Contraindications to injections

There are contraindications not only after Dysport, but also before the procedure.

Absolute:

  • oncological processes;
  • diabetes;
  • blood diseases;
  • autoimmune problems;
  • pregnancy (there are no studies on the effect of botulinum toxin on the fetus);
  • lactation (the drug may pass into breast milk);
  • severe allergic reactions in the past (anaphylactic shock, Quincke's edema, generalized urticaria).

Relative:

  • acute viral and bacterial infections (ARVI, acute respiratory infections, influenza, coronavirus, etc.);
  • inflammation of the skin in the area where the drug is to be administered;
  • herpes on the lips in the active stage.

2 weeks after recovery, administration of Dysport is allowed.

A smooth and even forehead is a reality

Dysport during pregnancy

Any botulinum toxins are contraindicated in pregnant women. Today there is no serious scientific data on the consequences for the child. Animal studies have shown reproductive toxicity when high doses of the drug were administered, causing maternal toxicity. There have also been no experiments to determine whether Dysport passes into breast milk, so nursing mothers should not receive such injections.

If a woman finds out about her pregnancy after the procedure, she should inform her obstetrician-gynecologist about this. In the first 3 weeks of the obstetric period, the embryo has not yet penetrated into the mucous membrane of the uterus, which means that the medicine will not affect it. Note: implantation occurs on average 7-8 days after fertilization, i.e. approximately 19-25 days after the start of the last menstruation. There is no reason to panic, especially considering that the substance, after being introduced into the tissue, exists in active form for no more than one hour and is eliminated from the body within 72 hours.

Complications after Dysport

If you tell your doctor in detail about your health before the procedure and follow the instructions after the injection, you will avoid negative consequences.

Side effects:

  • Pain at the injection site, headache.
  • Hematomas at the injection site.
  • Lowering or raising of the eyebrows with injections in the forehead and between the eyebrows.
  • Ptosis of the upper eyelid, which is reversible and disappears by the end of 3-4 weeks after the injection.
  • Asymmetry, which occurs when the drug is administered incorrectly or is unevenly distributed in the muscles. So, a crooked smile will appear or one eyebrow will rise higher than the other.

There is a common myth about the negative effects of Dysport on the eyes (i.e. vision), which has no basis.

When does the effect occur after Dysport?

The drug begins to act after 7–14 days (depending on the characteristics of the body). During this period, it is important to scrupulously follow the cosmetologist’s prescriptions in order to avoid unwanted consequences. Under the influence of Dysport, muscle motor activity gradually weakens. Small expression wrinkles are smoothed out, deep static wrinkles become less pronounced, and the surface of the skin becomes smooth.

The doctor will see the final result after the procedure in 2 weeks and will make a correction if the effect was insufficient. Experienced cosmetologists act delicately, introducing the minimum dose of the drug possible for the patient at the first session. It's better to add it later than to fight the mask effect.

Some people believe that botulinum therapy gets rid of any wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, etc. This is only partly true. For example, it will not be possible to eliminate deep static wrinkles between the eyebrows, which no longer disappear when the forehead muscles are relaxed. Wrinkles will become less noticeable. When the patient wants to completely erase these furrows, the cosmetologist, after Dysport, injects hyaluronic acid into the wrinkle. The combination of botulinum toxin type A with contour plastic surgery gives the best effect.

How to store Dysport at home

The shelf life of this drug in the package is 2 years. Storage temperature range is 3-7 degrees Celsius. Freezing is strictly prohibited.

At home, unopened dysport is stored in the refrigerator on the top shelves, but away from a source of negative temperature. It is not recommended to place packages on the refrigerator door, because temperature changes occur here, which can negatively affect the quality of the drug.

Typically, treatment with Dysport is carried out in a medical facility, so there is no need to store already prepared injections at home. Doctors try not to distribute this drug for use at home. However, situations are different. There may be emergency cases in which it becomes necessary to treat the patient at home.

For injection, the drug is diluted in a 0.9% sodium chloride solution. The opened bottle and syringe with the finished injection can be stored at low positive temperatures for no more than 8 hours. Such a short period is due to the fact that Dysport does not contain preservatives. When opened, oxygen is provided with access to high-molecular compounds, as a result of which they are destroyed and the medicine loses its properties.

During preparation of the drug, only the plastic cap is removed. Removing the run-in, much less opening the rubber plug, is strictly prohibited. All injection preparation procedures are carried out using a puncture with a sterile needle. Sodium chloride is added to the vial in the required quantities, after which the injection can be performed.

Storing the finished injection is possible only if all the rules for preparing the solution are followed.
