The different directions of the nipples of the right and left mammary glands is, strictly speaking, a physiological norm. The vast majority of women have this breast appearance, and it does not require any correction.
In the early days of plastic surgery, it was not uncommon for the right or left nipple and areola to be repositioned to achieve parallelism. But today professional surgeons are trying to avoid such a result. The fact is that it looks somewhat unnatural, and therefore good specialists will definitely make sure that after the operation the breasts and nipples are directed slightly in different directions. Correcting this feature of the mammary glands is required only at the request of the patient or in the case of pathologically severe asymmetry.
Is it possible to do without surgery?
Since the main reason why the breasts look in different directions is the genetic characteristics on which the anatomy of the mammary glands depends, it will not be possible to correct it using conservative methods. And even strengthening the pectoral muscles with physical exercise will only lift the glands upward, but will not force them to “unfold” forward. Of course, some effect can be achieved with a specially selected bra or shapewear. However, the result will only be temporary, because this is not a correction, but a visual disguise.
Wide chest
With this shape, lateral support is very important, especially if the bust is of an impressive size. A large distance between the mammary glands is said to exist if the width between them is three fingers or more.
In this case, it is quite difficult to obtain an ideal cleavage. If your left and right breasts are too far apart, discomfort when wearing an underwire bra is almost inevitable.
When trying on a bra, you need to lean forward and then use your hands to distribute your breasts in the cups. If discomfort is present, this model is not suitable.
Try to choose bras with the widest possible bridge, and push-up bras will provide you with an elegant neckline, as they will lift your bust from the bottom and sides. Preference should be given to bras without wires (with soft cups).
A good choice would be the plange model, as well as bras with triangular cup shapes. Bras with additional supporting inserts should be purchased by women with a bust size of D and above.
Such models are able to both raise and move the chest closer to the center, so the bust will not interfere with the movement of the arms.
Bras with a front closure are also suitable for this type of breast position. In such models, the cups are slightly further apart, therefore, they can be chosen by women with a bust size starting from E.
Surgical methods of correction
Operations during which only the misdirection of the nipples are corrected are extremely rare. They are mainly carried out when the cause of the disproportion is traumatic changes in the mammary glands and their pronounced unaesthetic asymmetry. Much more often, such corrections become part of an intervention called mastopexy. These are aesthetic surgeries, the purpose of which is to give the breasts a more attractive shape.
Typically, such a correction includes lifting of soft tissues, as well as correction of the area and location of the areolas and nipples on the surface of the gland. Indications for mastopexy are:
- abnormal breast shape after pregnancy and breastfeeding;
- significant and fairly rapid loss of body weight with sagging glands;
- age-related changes, which are manifested by prolapse of soft tissues.
The operation can have a different volume and be performed using different techniques: periariolar, vertical or T-shaped mastopexy. The specific type of intervention is chosen by a clinic specialist based on the severity of nipple displacement and the individual characteristics of a particular patient. The duration of mastopexy can be from 1.5 to 3 hours - it depends on what specific problems the plastic surgeon needs to solve. This operation is always performed under general anesthesia.
After reduction mammoplasty
After surgical breast reduction, the patient remains in the hospital for 1-2 days.
External sutures are usually removed 1-2 weeks after surgery (internal sutures dissolve on their own). After 3-6 months, postoperative scars will fade and become less noticeable.
For a month (or longer, if the patient’s condition requires it), it is mandatory to wear special compression hosiery. It is also necessary to avoid physical activity and thermal procedures.
In the first few weeks after surgery, you should sleep strictly on your back.
A healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition will help ease the postoperative period and maintain the results of reduction mammoplasty.

How to choose the right bra according to your breast shape
Buying the right bra is important. Closed cup or not? Bra with or without underwire? Lace or cotton? But there is one question that we often do not ask ourselves: what is the shape of the breast, how to maintain it and what would be ideal?
All breasts are not created equal - even from one girl they can be different. Different shapes, sizes, volumes and so on. And since the world of lingerie and lingerie is especially crowded with options, it may be very important for you to consider several factors before purchasing a piece of clothing that you will wear every day.
To find out a few of the most common bodice shapes, and how this knowledge could help you choose the perfect lingerie, we spoke to a variety of girls and came up with the top 10. Regardless of shape or size, read on to find out which bra is best for you every day.
High bun hairstyle, how to make a high bun
- Breast Shape: full and round Bodice: Minimizer If Mother Nature has blessed you with excellent breast shape, allow your bra to be comfortable, soft, without underwire and without extra bulk.
- Breast Shape: diverges to the sides Bodice: classic If your breast shape is spreading out to the sides and needs support, a classic bodice shape can help, plus choose memory foam cups to help maintain your natural bust shape.
- Breast shape: conical Bodice: classic The classic bra is ideal for conical or pointed breast shapes. Supportive and with moldable cups that fit perfectly under clothing. Thus, your breasts are given an ideal shape and support is provided, which is not noticeable even under the thinnest clothing.
- Breast shape: wide apart Bodice: with full cups For those with wide-set breasts, a wide bodice with deep cups is suitable, which will help correct the shape and lift.
- Breast Shape: small, regular shape Bodice: sporty A little lace is not only romantic and flirty, but will support your breasts.
- Breast Shape: small and tall Bodice: Angelica or half-bra Small breasts rarely need correction, so there are very few models in this size range. Many women with small breasts do not wear underwear at all; some prefer small padding to increase volume. A semi-bra with thin straps is ideal.
- Breast Shape: small and close-set breasts Bodice: push-up For small and narrow breasts, a push-up bodice is ideal, which, due to additional inserts, creates volume and corrects the shape, lifting the breasts and visually evening out the proportions.
- Breast Shape: asymmetrical breasts Bodice: with removable padding It can be very difficult to choose a bra if your breasts are of different sizes or shapes. Thus, we recommend choosing a custom-made model made specifically for those with asymmetrical breast shapes or purchasing a bra with replaceable padding, with which you can easily adjust the bra to your size.
- Breast shape: small breasts in need of slight correction Bodice: with removable straps If you need bust correction or a little support, and you love open shoulders or dresses with asymmetrical armholes, then a bodice with removable straps will be the ideal solution. However, strapless can be several times more comfortable. Recommended for those with small breasts, as there will not be enough support for large breasts.
- Breast Shape: big and heavy Bodice: Bustier If you have a large and voluminous bust, you can choose from most bra models, but a bustier will be ideal for you - deeper cups and wider wires, for more comfortable support and giving the ideal breast shape.
Narrow
For a narrow chest, the balconette model is ideal: it saves you from sagging (Photo: topgearselect.ru)
Narrow chests are usually set close together. The main difficulty that its owner faces is age-related sagging. A balconette bust will help solve the problem. This model lifts the breasts and forms a beautiful hollow in the décolleté area.
Those with narrow breasts should consider the option with closed cups. This model goes well with casual clothes without a neckline.
Asymmetrical
Slight breast asymmetry can be corrected by correctly adjusting the bra straps (Photo: wlooks.ru)
It often happens that one breast is larger than the other. This is a physiological norm. The difference can be very minor (plus or minus half a size), or it can become a real problem when choosing a bra (if the difference is a size or more).
Those with asymmetry should choose a bust that matches the size of the larger breast. Otherwise it will be inconvenient. Yes, and it looks ugly when the breasts protrude from a cup that is clearly smaller in volume.
Wide set.
Of great importance is the distance at which one breast is removed from the other, because otherwise, the woman will simply not be comfortable, and the final result will not be as aesthetically pleasing as it could be. In this case, a bra that fastens across the chest would be a good solution. You can also pay attention to models that have a jumper between the cups of a minimum size. Such models add a touch of piquancy, creating a sexy cleavage due to their design, which brings the breasts closer to each other, which means that the bust will not move apart, but will be gently fixed in the right place, without causing any discomfort.
With clasp between cups
Round form.
This means that the breasts are equally rounded both below and above. This structure allows its owner to enjoy her elasticity and youth even up to 40 years old. Changes in this part of the body begin to appear only during menopause, when the breasts lose their weight. As a rule, it is quite voluminous, which entails some difficulties in choosing underwear. The ideal choice for girls with round breasts would be a bra with wide straps, underwire and a closed cup that will not “cut” the bust at the top.
With closed cups
Size.
Bras with an A cup are not always easy to find, but with a smaller cup than A it is even more difficult, especially in Krasnoyarsk. My most positive experience of finding small size bras, oddly enough, was not in specialized lingerie stores, but in chain stores of cheap youth clothing, such as New Yorker and oodji. And their cost there starts from 400 rubles. There are also models in Milavitsa, but they didn’t suit me specifically, but on one of my clients, whose breasts are set closer and her mammary gland itself is larger, they fit like a glove.
Almost all the photos in this post were taken at the Festival Shopping Center in Pattaya in Thailand. There is a very good assortment and a range of sizes up to 90E at least. Besides the Festival, there are also several Shopping Centers in Pattaya with entire floors of lingerie. All bras shown in the photo will be either 70A or 75A.
The location of the cups relative to each other deserves a special mention. With the same size (both bras are 70A in this case), the cups on the lower bra are spaced wide enough for me, and the upper ones are set very close. To save time on fitting, you can also hold your bra near the display case and see if the placement of the cups is suitable. I have wide-set breasts, so I just don’t immediately try on bras with close-set cups.
If you wear a bra with a belt wider than necessary, any time you raise your arms or shoulders, the cups slide straight up your chest, and nothing stops them. You have to constantly correct it. Therefore, the idea of taking size 80A so that the cups match the location of the breasts is doomed to failure.
Sports bra.
Separately, I need to say about the wonderful sports bra that I came across. It is wireless but has a clasp at the back. It was because of the clasp that I didn’t buy it, because I do acrobatics and often lie on my back on the floor, and such a clasp would put pressure on my spine. But for running and other things it would be ideal. It sat well and comfortably on the chest, was without wires, visually enlarged the chest and would look natural under a T-shirt. When moving my hands, nothing protruded or shifted. If it weren’t for it sticking out from under my clothes in the neckline, I could wear it in everyday life.
All these bras with tags were photographed in Thailand, Pattaya, at the Festival Shopping Center in December 2014.
Bell
Bell-shaped breasts need to be lifted using the right bust (Photo: wildberries.by)
The name accurately reflects the shape. The chest expands downwards, which resembles a bell. For everyday wear, you can choose a bust with half cups. The “Bell” is ideally suited to a balconette that lifts the chest.
If you need to create a beautiful neckline, you should choose the plange model. Due to the fact that in such busts the jumper is low, they are the best option for outfits with a deep neckline.
Drop-shaped.
Characteristic signs of such breasts will be volume at the bottom and its deficiency at the top. Owners of a teardrop-shaped bust need to be careful when choosing underwear, as it is very susceptible to various changes associated with hormonal levels and age. He needs good support. If this shape is also combined with an impressive volume, then it can be quite difficult for a woman, since all the heaviness falls on the bottom. In this case, there must be bones in the underwear. It would also be nice if the bra had a wide belt and thick straps for additional breast support (especially useful for large sizes). With this shape, it is important that the bra lifts the breasts, so “balconette” models with an oblique cut or a minimizer would be excellent options.
